Yesterday and today have been layoffs here. They offered voluntary retirement to a bunch of folks last month.
I made it through and most of my team seem to still be here. But my old program manager and contracts manager are gone - one to VR and the other got laid off. Now I'm hearing about a bunch of the accounting folks who are gone - from all levels of that group.
This is only the second time (that I can remember)in 23.5 years that we have had such company wide reductions.
I thought the economy was back?!?!?!?
Retail sales are still soft, and that impacts us a lot. Plus some company specific stuff happened in the last year or two that is catching up to us now.
Man, I feel kind of shaky and terrible. This sucks.
I think our company ramped up expecting a bunch of work to come in that didn't materialize and got caught labor heavy. So many of our contracts are multi year, so we are feeling the effects now of the last few years.
Oh man, layoffs suck. :(
Can I get some "get here soon and tell me it's something cheap and easy to fix"-ma for my hot water heater? The guy is supposed to come between 3PM and 6PM (it's almost 4PM now, no word yet). I'm really hoping he can fix it today, it's so cold!
I just realized I am the sole surviver of the team I was a part of before I moved to Colorado. Some folks have come and gone over the years but with this round of retirements/layoffs, the rest of the team was let go. That was about 14 years of my work career.
I have never regretted moving to my current job or moving to Denver, but this sure underlines that decision.
