Sometimes I trip on how happy we could be.

Ugh, sorry.

I think our company ramped up expecting a bunch of work to come in that didn't materialize and got caught labor heavy. So many of our contracts are multi year, so we are feeling the effects now of the last few years.

If you're going through hell/keep on going/don't slow down/keep your fear from showing/you might be gone/'fore the devil even knows you're there

Oof. That's tough.

Oh man, layoffs suck. :(

Can I get some "get here soon and tell me it's something cheap and easy to fix"-ma for my hot water heater? The guy is supposed to come between 3PM and 6PM (it's almost 4PM now, no word yet). I'm really hoping he can fix it today, it's so cold!

I just realized I am the sole surviver of the team I was a part of before I moved to Colorado. Some folks have come and gone over the years but with this round of retirements/layoffs, the rest of the team was let go. That was about 14 years of my work career.

I have never regretted moving to my current job or moving to Denver, but this sure underlines that decision.

Wow, Suzi.

Water heater ~ma, meara

Have Box o' Meat and some Autumn Maple beer. Yum. No eggs, again. Consequences of the delivery process change up, I'm sure.

So, now that I am not actually at work I feel more comfortable boggling that my BOSS who has been with the company for 18 years was laid off. And my coworker who sits across the aisle from me is moving to another department to replace a laid off new hire who has been here maybe a month. The whole thing is shocking and is going to lead to increased workloads. Total number of positions cut is 23, which doesn't sound that large, but it's the biggest layoff in company history.

brillig

As I've gotten into knitting and cooking, I've been following Ravelry and Facebook groups and reading comments on recipes. It boggles me the number of times people ask how they "should" do things. Granted, I obsessively research options to see get an idea of processes, but I get the feeling that people don't have the "try it and see" bent. "How big should a hat for a toddler be?" Um, measure the toddler in question? "I did the recipe exactly as it said, though I knew there was too much liquid in it. I'll never make this again." So maybe make it again with less liquid?

Is it really not that obvious to people that instructions can be modified? It always makes me antsy when my worldview is revealed to be counter to that of a large number or people.

Oh, this pile of stuff in the middle of my soup is rice, not sun dried tomatoes. Yum.
