And then Ortus came and said "It's Ortin' time" and they all Orted off into the sunset

Gnargh, feh, my breakfast cart guy put ketchup on this egg sandwich! Come on breakfast cart guy, I know ketchup on eggs is a traditional NYC thing, but it's also really really gross which is why I said NO KETCHUP. P'tui.

I doubt hitting the debt ceiling will affect people's ability to access checking or basic savings accounts. It may freeze up credit (like in 2008) but if you have money in the bank that's just money as opposed to stocks or bonds, it should be fine.

'we all walk this earth feeling we are frauds. The trick is to be grateful and hope the caper doesn't end any time soon"

I better get my inheritance check deposited pronto.

I guess I really am an adult. My first thought upon seeing the check wasn't "vacation in Hawaii!" but "new tires." (Not even an exclamation mark in my thoughts.) I am now officially dull.

I must obey the inscrutable exhortations of my soul—Calvin and Hobbs

Yeah, when I got the check from Dad's estate I was all, "Ok, that's the last of the debt gone." And, yes, I bought some new stuff, but that was as much due to the whole, "Hey, I have income that use to go toward paying down my debt," as inheritance stuff.

Fandom means never having to say "But where would I wear that?"

Timelies all!

Day whatever of the furlough. The appeal of lounging around the house all day has worn off...

Sometimes I trip on how happy we could be.

So I don't forget: I think I'll make this apple quickbread for the office.

Remember that the frontier of the Rebellion is everywhere. And even the smallest act of insurrection pushes our lines forward.

Ted Cruz's hometown paper regrets endorsing him.

I'm terrifically busy with my ennui.

If the Chron's first choice was David Dewhurst, I'm not sure how far their opinion can be trusted.

OK, my first actual expenditure was hi-tech windshield wipers for my car. Also paid up on a bunch of credit stuff. Will have to wait until the check actually clears for more financial excitement.

We are Buffistas. This isn't our first apocalypse. -- Pix

Here's something for the Harry Potter fans: a documentary someone's making about the rise of Quidditch as an actual sport. It's pretty endearing, and I suspect that, like other sports documentaries, if I see it, I'll cry.
