I am not...I am not the damsel in distress. I am not some case. I have to work this. I've lived in a cave for 5 years in a world where they killed my kind like cattle. I am not going to be cut down by some monster flu. I am better than that. What a wonder...how very scared I am.

'we all walk this earth feeling we are frauds. The trick is to be grateful and hope the caper doesn't end any time soon"

My motivation has gone completely missing today.

Well not canonically, no, but this is transformative fiction.

I can't believe I just got through "You named your kid Holden?" and came out the other side alright. At least I didn't say it to the parent that really loves the book, but to the parent that was dubious about it and is happy that her Holden is the anti-Caulfield.

One more co-worker who will never let me near their kids...

And then Ortus came and said "It's Ortin' time" and they all Orted off into the sunset

Holden is super-trendy right now. Boys names ending in N have been on the rise for a while, and all the "normal" ones (Dylan, Aiden, etc) are pretty played out.

Because books.

So my boss is scheduling phone calls with me and the other remote editor for this afternoon. I have a really bad feeling about this.

Remember that the frontier of the Rebellion is everywhere. And even the smallest act of insurrection pushes our lines forward.

My friends in Brooklyn just named their newborn Calvin.

I must obey the inscrutable exhortations of my soul—Calvin and Hobbs

It sounds like a lovely day, Consuela!

I have a memory tickling my mind of a winemaker telling me something they made out of the grape skins that were leftover. It wasn't raisins. I don't think it was even food. Soap?

My fingers are crossed for you, Amy.

Because books.

Yeah, I just got laid off, with the provision that I can write for them as much as I want. We'll see how this works out.

I'm terrifically busy with my ennui.

Oh, ick, Amy. Fingers crossed that this just means the end of a bad job and the beginning of something good.

Not so nice is that I'm about to ruin a Friday morning for a bunch of people because of a series of unfortunate events and an upset foreign government. - shrift

Oh, Amy. I'm sorry. I hope this means that something better is right around the corner for you.
