Then I found out that he'd previously been fined and disciplined for overservicing patients.

What's involved in "overservicing"? Sounds a lot like a "happy ending" kind of place.

girl,

you might be the best interviewee ever. I have not often been thanked post-interview. It makes bosses remember you.

this mess was yours / now your mess is mine

I have not often been thanked post-interview.

Seriously?? I freak out when I forget to do it for a couple of days!

You guys, I meant to e-mail a thank-you note to the woman at the AMA later that same day (after the phone interview), and I totally spaced. *She* e-mailed *me* the next day to follow up, and I did literally facepalm at my forgetfulness. So I replied to that e-mail quickly, and thanked her in what I hoped was an enthusiastically professional manner.

Fortunately it didn't hurt my chances, but I scared the crap out of myself at the time.

If you're going through hell/keep on going/don't slow down/keep your fear from showing/you might be gone/'fore the devil even knows you're there

Honestly, it's nice when people do, and does add to their favorable impression. But it's not a big deal to me either way - you don't get a black mark.

Oh, and email is more than sufficient. Handwritten thank yous make me raise my eyebrows a little bit.

What's involved in "overservicing"?

In this context I'd guess unnecessary tests and/or medications.
