I am a woman of various inclinations and only some of the time are they to burn everything down in frustration

Oy, Strix, I've only had bats in the garage and that was disconcerting. They are fast and not easy to herd. Good luck!

I should make coffee, I don't think there's anywhere open with drive-thru caffeine between here and Benicia.

'we all walk this earth feeling we are frauds. The trick is to be grateful and hope the caper doesn't end any time soon"

Here's hoping that Strix's bat problem will have resolved by morning. It happened a time or two in my last apartment and was always fixed by penning up the cats, and opening as many windows and screens and doors as was practical.

And yes, it's not silly to be cautious about getting in physical contact with a panicked bat. There was a certain amount of donning of protective gear by me, though it turned out not to be necessary.

(Reminder to self: find ski mask.)

not your mom's socks.

Not a bat, but we had a hamster cagebreak this am. Little beest must have worked for months on that lid. I woke up because I 'saw' him scoot under our door, in the dark at 4am. Took us 45 minutes to catch him. Now he's sleeping happily, in a pile of guilt and glory.

We are accepting new names. Including Hamdini and Agent Double-O Hamster.

Quit with the nocturnal agitating of humans, small mammals!

Whee! Walked for an hour and half then went to breakfast and am now debating whether to stay awake or go back to bed. I'm tired, so more sleep sounds good, but had three cups of coffee, so suspect that more sleep might not actually happen...

Walter is SO HAPPY when I get up at 2 or 3 am, he thinks we should do that every night. He also gets to sleep all day while I'm at work, so he is not in charge of scheduling.

All sorrows can be borne if you put them into a story. Tell me a story.

-t, I was reading something the other day about how humans commonly used to have two sleeps. Before artificial light they would sleep in two approx. 4 hour chunks with a period of wakefulness in between.

We are accepting new names.

Did I ever tell the story of the bat that crashed a dance show I was lighting? It first appeared in this dark, modern piece with monks robes and music by Enigma, just sort of swooping over the heads of the dancers. It was really kind of cool. Unfortunately, the next piece was small children tapping to I'm a Yankee-Doodle-Dandy. The bat was a bit out of place in that one.

I was also backstage for a performance of Our Town with a bat swooping around most of the third act. That was fun and exciting.

Why did Darth Vader cross the road? To get to the Dark Side!

Wow Consuela, that sounds like an amazing trip. Life changing.

I am, oy, too much going on to properly update right now although that was my intention. Short version: big sis is coming home today from what we hope is her final surgery. Still much is unresolved, including her actual diagnosis and treatment plan moving forward. My school year starts tomorrow. She's still at our house for the foreseeable future.

Wee! I'm picturing a bat swooping around with the "Gotta Dance" song as an earworm.

Wow, the swoopy bat stories are cool, though I wouldn't want one in my house!

Good luck, Burrell, and your sister.

We are headed to a baseball game today. I'm hoping it is neither too cold nor too hot--I already got sunburned yesterday!!

Sometimes I trip on how happy we could be.

I took a redeye home last night, which was such a mistake! Except financially, which is why I did it, but still. I came home and slept a few more hours and am still sleepy.
