The sting of buying the clock I wasn't all that keen on has been eased by bidding on both the Art Deco clocks going higher than I would have matched, so I'd have lost out on them anyway. I still think I may buy one of the swoosh clocks in a couple of weeks to go on a different wall.

Strix, if you leave him alone he'll take care of any flying bugs. Really though, an outdoor porchlight next to an open door is probably your best bet.
I don't mind bats, in theory, but Mr. Bat is flapping wildly about. I thought about the door, but -- the cats.
And...um...this is hard to admit, but Mr. Bat makes me shriek like a girly girl. If I had a beekeepers outfit, I'd be fine, but he's FLAPPING. At head height. AT MY FACE.
I know he's just doing his bat-thing, but...I think I'm afraid of him.
And the cats aren't trying to fix the bat problem for you? You have my sympathies.
There is a certain irony in the fact that downforeveryoneorjustme.com won't load up for me.
Nope, the cats and dog are like "Whatevs..." Of course, Hunter Cat is stalking the great outdoors. But I am too much of a wuss to go downstairs and let her in! (If she's even nearby...)
Ah, well, the bedroom is safe.
Oy, Strix, I've only had bats in the garage and that was disconcerting. They are fast and not easy to herd. Good luck!
I should make coffee, I don't think there's anywhere open with drive-thru caffeine between here and Benicia.
Here's hoping that Strix's bat problem will have resolved by morning. It happened a time or two in my last apartment and was always fixed by penning up the cats, and opening as many windows and screens and doors as was practical.
And yes, it's not silly to be cautious about getting in physical contact with a panicked bat. There was a certain amount of donning of protective gear by me, though it turned out not to be necessary.
(Reminder to self: find ski mask.)
Not a bat, but we had a hamster cagebreak this am. Little beest must have worked for months on that lid. I woke up because I 'saw' him scoot under our door, in the dark at 4am. Took us 45 minutes to catch him. Now he's sleeping happily, in a pile of guilt and glory.
We are accepting new names. Including Hamdini and Agent Double-O Hamster.
Quit with the nocturnal agitating of humans, small mammals!
Whee! Walked for an hour and half then went to breakfast and am now debating whether to stay awake or go back to bed. I'm tired, so more sleep sounds good, but had three cups of coffee, so suspect that more sleep might not actually happen...
Walter is SO HAPPY when I get up at 2 or 3 am, he thinks we should do that every night. He also gets to sleep all day while I'm at work, so he is not in charge of scheduling.
