Shit, when I've looked in places I wanted to live for just me, they were $350K. But the key is the places I want to live.

Yeah, small town Minnesota would be a stretch, though it's near La Crosse which has the best and least expensive health care in the U.S. It's weird, because I might not mind so much living in Minnesota at this point in my life.
Except for the lack of having a job thing. And the winter thing. And the all of Grace's specialists are here thing.
The winter thing might get me, even if I'm more used to it than you are presently. Every year I get older, the better Tucson looks to me.
On my way back from the movies this afternoon I passed a cardboard sign by the roadside that said "House for cheap, [street address], cash only." I'm sure it's completely legit and aboveboard.
oh, I like this one. [link]
The problem is that when you have a burst of some kind in the house it is something you really want to stop quick.
Yep. That overroad asking about the neighborhood for help because the damn leak was getting worse by the minute. On one hand, I'm resentful the plumber will take that much money for shutting off the water, when they could have just *told* me what to do. OTOH, I also get that by just telling me, they would probably accrue liability if it went horribly wrong, and it is their time, for which all 10 minutes of it I'd be willing to pay (nsm $200/hr min 1 hr.)
They have a good rep for good work, and I might use them for a non-emergency job, but I'll be damned if I'll call them in an emergency again.
Oh look, no one painted over the woodwork, fancy that....
