Whew, I made it through my 6 mile run for a total of 19 this week. Walter suggested we lay down on the grass after mile 2, but he rallied. Tired now. Legs already sore, usually that hits the next day. Have burned more calories than I have eaten today, should probably do something about that.

Off-topic discussion. Wanna talk about corsets, duct tape, or physics? This is the place. Detailed discussion of any current-season TV must be whitefonted.
Wow, -t, that's great. I totally should start zombies this summer, huh?
They are very motivating! I'm almost through Season 1, and pretty darn happy I don't have to wait for Season 2 to start. Come to think of it, I was not chased once during this run; maybe they knew I needed to conserve my strength.
Six mile run?? Wow, go you, t! That's a 10K!
...I am supposed to do a 10 in two weeks. I am so not ready at all.
Congrats, Kat! Well deserved.
Jesse, US of Secrets? Yeah, I saw part of that. Uhg.
t TL;DR So there's been drama brewing at the pool. 3 weeks ago, they fired the aquatics director. Right before camp and summer season. Baaaaad. I'd been getting a lot of scuttlebutt from him and various staff (pool and other) that he was trying to hire more guard staff for the summer, a much needed lessons coordinator and was getting major pushback from the director and a couple of gym floor managers on all his candidates for the past 6 months (I think the latter feared their positions would be cut because they aren't qualified to guard, and this is an issue when only one guard is on site. Also, that number of positions unfilled that long? WTF? He was only getting the ok on entry-level-guards who turnover fast.) I suspect that was a major factor, because he did keep everything running smoothly and was well liked.
Needless to say, it has not been smooth since. All the guards and swim instructors are pissed and confused. The director is trying to fill in, but is discovering it is a PITA at the end of the semester when he has guards that are leaving, guards needing time off for vacation, guards taking second summer jobs now that classes are over... Well, DUH.
Tonight, the floor manager actually caved drove out and picked up a guard at home (who just came home from college last week and hasn't worked here since last fall and figured she was the last # on the list) because the guard scheduled didn't show. Oh and I found out the one that didn't show? It wasn't his usual shift, so good chance he didn't know since he's super-part-time and they haven't had an inservice since this all went down. (DUH!)
People tell me all this shit, it's funny. (I got all the last para from the child watch manager tonight while waiting for the manager and guard to arrive.) But holy shit, talk about a mess of their own making. I'm tempted next time I see the director (I do often) to be a knowitall bitch and be all 'you know you really need a pool director AND coordinator AND more than one guard-certified on-site AND you know 3 of you guards are graduating and going to college this summer AND summers usually require 2 guards per shift, right??!! Because I know this by observation from the past 5 years.'
t /TL;DR
The pool regulars are getting CRANKY with random closures (this was the first one I hit and I only had to wait half an hour) and the parents are getting pissed that the front desk is giving them wrong info about lessons and....
Also, I've been trying to find a way to get a hold of the ex-pool director because I think we might have a position at work opening up that's right up his alley (we'd talked jobs before) except he has a damn common name, even knowing he lives in Catonsville. I think I can get his info from someone, though.
Goodness, sarameg, you sure lead an exciting life.
Thanks guys. I'm pretty amazed that I could do it - that's over two hours of running for me, and in January half an hour of running was REALLY HARD. Of course, I did have to stop now and then to give Walter water, or convince him to stop rolling in the grass, or wait for a traffic light, but still. It's some really obvious progress and that is super gratifying.
Wow, -t! Go you!
Jesse, US of Secrets? Yeah, I saw part of that. Uhg.
Yerp.
Took me so long to write, I just saw your feat. Go -t! I'm glad it has turned into a thing of joy for you.
It's not so much an exciting life as it just emphasizes to me how engaged I have become in so many communities. An engaged life. And that's a good, if funny thing. It's good for me, I thrive off of it (not the drama, but the connections) and funny because my communities for so long were so small (Miss Louise, Taylor) I always thought of myself on the far spectrum of loner. But I'm not, really. I'm an introvert and independent and solitary, but I love me some community, and quickly gravitate to being an active member.
Timelies all!
Flying out tomorrow for a wedding. The festivities go all day Sunday, so we're flying tomorrow afternoon, and flying back Monday late morning.
That's lovely, sarameg. I'm so glad you found that, and in so many places.
