age 12 was the year I cried. At everything and nothing. So I 'm going to say that over reaction to embarrassment is not out of line. I'm more concerned with the hitting . But then again I grew up with no hitting as a rule of life. Not to say I never did, but there was rarely more than one punch. Of course, the older one being snotty wasn't great behavior - I'm going to guess that is a hot button for the 11 year old.

Good luck to Grace!
Best of luck to Grace!
I some pictures of Lupita where she was moving in her dress and...I kind of liked it.
Good luck, Grace!!
Eh, I kinda feel like on the one hand, "lame" tends to be pretty disassociated from its actual meaning/origins. On the other hand, kids who say "that's so gay" try to claim the same thing, and I'm not ok with that, so....yeah.
Yeah.
Best of luck to Grace today!
The hitting thing is not okay, and yet... it's a kid thing who doesn't have the ability to clearly say all of the mixed and pent up emotions.
Grace punches Noah a lot. More than we'd like. And we give her the punching lecture a lot. But.... it doesn't make much difference in her behavior. She tries, "Noah, STOP" or her favorite, "Stop it, Noah." But then she resorts to punching.
Thanks for all of the good luck wishes. She just left for the hospital with Katie.
Lots of ~ma for Grace.
Sending all the ~ma to Grace and family.
Younger siblings don't have a lot of tools to cope with older sib abuse. He kinda stood up for himself. Just hasn't figured out how to do that with more control.
My kids couldn't get away with 'gay' or 'retarded' at all, but I pretty much let lame go. I surely told them it wasn't appropriate more than once, but it gets to a picking your battles point. I'm confident they didn't make a connection to why it was offensive, but they knew clearly what the issue was with gay and retarded.
"Lame" at least can imply a temporary condition.
I've got to get going, but I slept in late (yeah, 8 is late for me). I was very pleased that the historic rice plantation I visited yesterday does NOT gloss over the slaves that actually did the work, including a long, long list of their names that historians have been able to gleam from the records.
Alas, no wild alligators, but I have hopes today.
Keep an eye on the trees, Theo.
