Ugh Suzi, that's such a bummer for CJ. I like meara's suggestion of looking into community college summer programs. Fingers crossed that he finds the right solution.
I just got a really sweet email from one of my students thanking me and just... it was really sweet. I'm saving it.
Today is ugly hot and I am a bit cranky pants. Too much to do, and the too much has been dragging on for too long.
I'm so sorry for CJ, but the requirements are extra-stiff, even with his S&R activity.

Ahahaha! "I'd be cool...but not quite Scooter-cool. And I'm okay with that...or am I?"
Yes, autofocus is right! Sorry, I've been offline of my tech most of the day because the SOs iPad arrived a day early, and as resident tech, I've been setting it up for him, which had mostly consisted of be faffing around in various coffeehouses all day.
I use evernote for every damn thing. And then todoist to replace my mate lamented Astrid, and cozi for familial calendaring.
Oh, Suzi, I'm so sorry about CJ. I've been meaning to post that ADHD alone does not qualify a kid for an IEP (There must be also an underlying learning disability) but he should qualify for a 504, which is a more structured plan.
I use paper and pen for calendering but evernote for storing files and other clippings.
I have 4 more weeks of school but I'm feeling especially done. I think the summer weather is doing it to me?
Sorry I posted and ran. I had karate and needed to let him have some space.
Kat, that matches what I've been learning. It is pretty much too late for this semester but will see what we can get in place for next year. I don't think he has an underlying learning disability, but more a bunch of bad habits resulting from the ADHD.
The Chief in charge of the Fire Science program offered to help CJ with post high school choices. The community college what teams with the high school for this program also offers a 2 year Fire Science degree which he can apply for. Not sure how competitive that program is or if they take things other than GPA into consideration.
Yes, he is responsible for his grades and hadn't been willing to accept help before now, so he is reaping the consequences. But it just breaks my heart and I think we are both grieving for the loss of this opportunity.
Now we need to come up with a new plan. We have a meeting with the fill-in counseler on Friday to make summer school and senior year plans. I wish we could talk with his assigned counseler but apparently there is some doubt she will be back on Monday. If she is, I'll make an appointment with her to double check what we put together on Friday.
I should try to adopt a better planning system. Y'all are reminding me of how badly I fail on that account.

Yes this, for me anyway. Luckily this is the last week of classes because I truly can no longer be arsed to pretend I give a crap about some of them. Other students I adore and want to wrap in warmth and safety to get them through the rocky shoals. And FTR my affection does not align along grades, but goes to the students who have come and shared and strived and tried.
