Buffista pharamacist. I have some losartan that say "discard by april 2014". The reason it lasted so long is that they switched me to another prescript and then switched me back. There is usually quite a bit of margin in discard by dates for medication isn't there? It should still be at or near full potency true? At any rate since it is for blood pressure, better than nothing until Tuesday? Nothing is the alteranative. I'm now joining other buffistas in difficulty in getting presecriptions filled. Had to fight just to make sure I don't run out of insulin. And fucking insurance won't let me be proactive. If I try to fill more than three days before I run out the put a hold on it as "too early a refill". That applies to every medication.

I've never understand the refill thing. I mean, I do, but at the same time, it's always better to have a few days leeway, just in case of emergencies, or especially if you have to travel. I think the only way around it is maybe to try one of the mail-order places where you can get three months at a time? Not that it helps with insulin, I know.

I'd probably limp along, but I still have moments marveling that I don't need an active and realistic contingency plan every time I go more than 2 miles from my house. So I broke me a bit, and I wouldn't recommend it. And it was a a crapshoot as to whether my alternator would act normal or not when I traded the car in. One I won, but...

Returned my nephew's call from last night (I was painting and couldn't get it.) He eventually got to the point that he's fundraising for his school and going to run a mile and a half and is getting pledges. Heh. Oh and his little brother too, but $5 less than him. Um, suuure. Running that one past my brother. It was cute. He's about as much of a phone talker as my brother was at that age (not much) but we had a nice chat.

I had to show people my drivers license to convince them I'm 47. So that's good.

It's totally fine. The only time you should be concerned is if the pills are crumbly or otherwise disintegrating, smelly, or discolored. (Or if they're capsules, if the capsules are wildly warped out of shape or are smelly or somehow damp.) t edit And that advice is true whether the meds are past their expiration date or have a year to go before they hit their expiration date. If it's physically funky/smelly/gnarly, don't take it.

Honestly, with meds, a conservative estimate is that you've got 1-3 months past the expiration date, but probably more like 6-12 months. (I will not admit how far past the expiration date I've taken meds. Nor do I recommend it. But based on using myself as my own lab rat, I am 100% confident that on April 4, you are safe to take meds with a label that say "discard by April 2014".)

Oh Kat, how heartbreaking for that family!

I have a friend whose son is dying. Not right away, not in the next few months, but he has a very serious disease, and its progression is downhill. Every time she posts about his going into the hospital again, my heart breaks for her a little more.

My head has been punishing me. I assume it's sinuses, but I had a fleeting fear that the bonk on my cheek that gave me the black eye--and which still hurts to the touch--had gotten infected. My sister reassured me that it was unlikely. Oh, and then I picked up my son and discovered he had a fever of 101.8 and a sore throat, so now I get to worry about catching whatever he has. arrgh! No time to get sick right now, folks!
