Jesse did you see NPRs Monkey See blog about TGW? I thought it was interesting and touched on part of what you are talking about.

Natter 72: We Were Unprepared for This
Off-topic discussion. Wanna talk about corsets, duct tape, or physics? This is the place. Detailed discussion of any current-season TV must be whitefonted.
See, I was just like- couldn't you go on Rte 88-- it isn't that hard!
It shouldn't have been that hard for Odysseus either, right? Just looking at a map, anyway.
In my imagination, upstate New York is full of sirens and Cyclopes and so forth.

Yeah, and it was actually reading her piece on HIMYM that made me have to post -- but not enough to register on the NPR site....
In my imagination, upstate New York is full of sirens and Cyclopes and so forth.
It's NOT?!?
Update on the maybe-married friend: at least one person has commented on the FB post with "Wait, what???" Which isn't quite the same as "IS THIS FOR REAL???" but close. I've decided to just watch it unfold without commenting. (Which, in the end, may make me a dick for not offering congratulations on a real wedding, but hey -- you get married for real on April Fools' Day and announce it without a disclaimer that it's for real, then you risk my extreme disbelief.)
That seems fair, Tep.
It's NOT?!?
COuld be, as far as I know. Sophia?
In my imagination, upstate New York is full of sirens and Cyclopes and so forth.
Does that make Syracuse and Scranton scylla and charybdis?
I'd just offer nothing, Steph. Doesn't make you dick at all.
Not an April Fools joke - I have fucked up no less than 3 big things for today. UGH!
More update: the bride commented and said, "I got married. I know it's strange, but it felt right and I'm very happy."
I fully admit that I'm still wondering if it's an elaborate prank, but I'm going to go ahead and congratulate her anyway.
(I can't begin to understand her personal life; in October she and her live-in boyfriend of 4 years broke up, and 2 months later the boyfriend was engaged to a new girlfriend who's 16 years younger than him, and then the bride in question quickly got back together with a long-ago ex, who she apparently just married. I need a diagram to keep it all straight.)
So it's just like HIMYM in real life, then?
