Every now and then, I think I might actually be a little odd.

Zen, did you get your Chromebook? Am I remembering right that you ordered one off that same deal tommyrot linked to?

I did, and I did. It came while I was gone, and I picked it up yesterday. I didn't get the zillion gigs of free Drive storage because it was a refurbished unit, but I don't really care. It's great. Thin and light, boots up in under 15 seconds, took less than five minutes to set it up to my preferences, charges fully quickly and the battery seems to last a really long time. It does exactly what I want a device to do: just fucking work. I expect it will almost completely replace my old personal laptop for ordinary use, and the old one will become extra external storage.

I am a woman of various inclinations and only some of the time are they to burn everything down in frustration

Guinness is good.

You are allowed to flip out like a small mammal when unexpected shit crops up. For a little while. You'll sort out whatever needs sorting and if you don't it probably won't be that terrible. Oxygen in, carbon dioxide out.

"Faded like the lilac, he thought."

Yeah, you're right.

Zen, I am super jealous, mine won't turn on. You didn't, I take it, have to do any kind of incantation to get it to work? I'm negotiating a return/exchange - I do expect to love it when I get one that does anything.

-t, mine was actually on and running when I took it out of the box, for which I have no explanation. I have successfully turned it off and on since then.

"You can't put a price on the joy of not giving a shit." -Zenkitty

-t, depending on the Chromebook, it should turn on when you open the lid. The battery may not be charged, but if it's plugged in & not turning on, def. return/exchange.

Why did Darth Vader cross the road? To get to the Dark Side!

Another friend of mine was just raving about Uber, made me think I'd try it the next time I need a ride somewhere.

I'm sorry about the sucky day, Kat. A day off gone wrong always makes me extra edgy. And as for K, it's hard, the ups and downs of relationships. Without going into details, I can say I feel you on that one as both Cody and I see me as the taker and him as the giver in our relationship. (Not that I don't give, I give a lot. But he sacrifices more than I do.)

Yeah, I plugged it in and charged it overnight and still nothing.

You got all my on and running-ness, Zen!

Greece's financial crisis threatens to take down all of Western civilization - a civilization they themselves founded. A rather tragic irony - which is something they also invented. - Jon Stewart

Thanks, Hil!
