this mess was yours / now your mess is mine

Suzi, sounds like a nerve is pinched/trapped somewhere. Is that arm sore, maybe in the upper arm area? Because inflamed muscles could be trapping a nerve and causing pins and needles.

If that's the problem, try feeling for tender spots in your upper arm and, if you find any, actually put pressure on them for 15-30 seconds, even though it's tender as hell. That might work out a muscle knot, which could free up the nerve.

The other cause -- and hear me out on this -- is that you're about to manifest your super-powers.

Because books.

Maybe try icing instead, Suzi?

On Love It or List It, Hillary does go over budget, but she usually has a good reason -- or at least something unanticipated when they begin the work. I think they encourage the homeowners toward the drama.

'we all walk this earth feeling we are frauds. The trick is to be grateful and hope the caper doesn't end any time soon"

I just hope that a Real Contractor (tm) would do some basic investigation of the house to scope out knob and tube wiring, load-bearing walls, old skanky plumbing and so on, to take anything that's obvious from at least examining the basement, and then make their work-estimate based on that... plus some extra for unexpected stuff.

I'm terrifically busy with my ennui.

I think they encourage the homeowners toward the drama.

Yeah, I'm sure. So I've switched over to Judge Judy. Which is completely drama-free, of course.

It's five thousand for kissing, ten thousand for snuggling... End of list.

Pretty sure a real contractor has a contingency for what always happens to Hillary. So just like how HH is about figuring out what house the hunters already bought, LIOLI is about figuring out the fake entry in the repair list (go basement, always basement). I'd also be shocked if more than 10% of the homeowners ever list after.

Sometimes I trip on how happy we could be.

They had some follow up segments online recently, and definitely no one had bought a house David showed them, and I think only one or two had moved. Why would you?

Relatedly, HGTV really ruined my mother: She just had her bathroom totally redone, and she's disappointed that she never got to have a reveal. Mom! You live in real life!

That's adorable.

Every now and then, I think I might actually be a little odd.

Why would you?

Really, after your house has been remodeled and redecorated just for you, why would you move? I read somewhere that even the people who said they would "list it" didn't; almost everyone stayed. Even if the house still needed remodeling in some areas, it would probably be cheaper to do that (with their now-increased equity) than to buy a new house.

Punishingly Intricate

My friends totally staged one of these for me when they helped me do the interim redo of my kitchen after I moved in (before I was able to manage the much needed, down to the slats redo I had done in 2008). We'd finished some of the work, painting over the horrible paneling, removing most of the American Eagle fixtures, and I'd bought laminate to cover the clown orange countertops but not put it on. Then I went out of town for a week and my friends secretly finished up the project, including making a cat bed on the newly painted radiator cover, and arranged for it to be done when I got back from the airport. It's one of the nicest things anyone's ever done for me!
