Natter 72: We Were Unprepared for This
Off-topic discussion. Wanna talk about corsets, duct tape, or physics? This is the place. Detailed discussion of any current-season TV must be whitefonted.
When I was little we went to Yosemite a bunch. Sometimes staying in the cabins, other times tenting it. I even went to summer camp there but the camp ground burned in the big fire there a year or two ago.
But it wasn't until we moved to Colorado that I realized I had never taken my kids there. I wish I could have a do-over on that.
Ben wants to go back to Yellowstone, since he was only there in utero (he was born in WY, though). I'd love to, too, and definitely not pregnant this time.
There are a bunch of Wii Fits on eBay for cheap right now.
Matilda's school had Portfolio Night tonight, and I got to browse through all her journals:
- Regular (all Emmett, all the time, as per example: "I am thankful for my brother he is kind to me wen I am sad...If I did not have a brother I wooud be nothing without him I love him so much.")
- Environmental: ("Ways to save water: Poop in a hole.")
- and Science ("Today I observed my mealworms in their habitat. They go down in their wheat brand to hide from the lite. They are shy of people."
"Today I obsv my mealworms habitat. They were napping and codling together. AH SO CUTE !!! I love my mealworms!")
The regular journals brought me to the verge of blubbing right in the middle of the classroom, so the others were welcome comic relief. And I can't wait for the school year to end so we can bring all her art home. This kid is AWESOME.
Her teacher apologized for how crowded the classroom was and for not having a presentation ready and all sorts of apologetic self-deprecating nonsense, but everyone kind of loves him. He's been amazing, and we're all so lucky to have him.
Elementary got picked up for a 3rd season, according to Tumblr.
JZ, those are the best!
We had a more up and down conference with Franny's teacher. Bottom line, teacher thinks she's fabulous, as do we, but Franny has been checking out during class and falling behind in her work. le sigh. I will always always question if I did the right thing by her by not holding her back in school.
Kat, do you have a Wii? We have an extra Fit thingy. We sold the Wii to Stephanie, but she already had a Fit so we didn't send that. If you want it, it's yours. And I think we mailed the game with the Wii, but since it was a duplicate, Stephanie and fam may be willing to send it to you.
Burrell, when would she have been held back?
JZ, those are awesome--mealworms?? ew.
I had a latke sandwich (with pastrami made by the food truck guys), and a cider flight, with my friend (saffron cider, raspberry cider, citrus mead, and ginger cider--the citrus mead was best, though would've been better with a little club soda or something, it was just a touch too strong/sweet, the raspberry was nicely tart, the other two were just OK), and then we got more cider (I got some marion berry stuff, he got cherry cider) and we came back to my place and talked. Yay, catching up with a friend who I hadn't seen in a while.
Should I buy this cardigan? I really really like the style, and put myself on the "tell me when it's back in stock!" list, but the reviews say it's (a) dry clean only and (b) pills easily, plus it's $55, which seems like a lot. But I really like how it looks. Dilemma!

Meara, the cider flight sounds lovely!
I don't buy much dry clean only, but I will occasionally splash out on things like a nice, dark sweater. I have a silk-blend one that I only have to get cleaned a couple of times a year that I wear all the time in chilly weather. Since it's an outer layer for fall and winter it doesnt pick up much body stink, and the dark gray doesn't show random smudges.
