So I'm finally at the point of negotiating salary with this firm, although the client, my Former Employer, is asking them to cut their bid by 19%. WTF.

They won't give me any flexibility on leave, but apparently the job is 3 days telework/2 days in the office. I want a big-ass flatscreen monitor for that. And a standing desk, although I forgot to ask for that...

Good luck negotiating, Consuela!

Grow thistles yourselves! Cut out the middleman!

I do leave the thistles in the backyard to go to seed, but I'm not going to harvest the seeds so I can fill the feeder in the front yard where I can see the goldfinches from my couch. And there are community standards against having huge thistle plants going to seed in your front yard, sadly.

Why did Darth Vader cross the road? To get to the Dark Side!

Fingers crossed, Consuela

I hope your get what you deserve, Consuela. Squeeze 'em!

I am completely failing to motivate to be something other than a cat bed. Except they abandoned me, so now I have to Do Something. Ate. Once my body acknowledges that, will go swim.

My cats have abandoned me too. I have work but nothing with a hard deadline today. Unusual for the last day of the month, so I am giving the side eye to my e-mail.

Plus I have the edge of a headache. I'm trying to cut it off but it is laughing at the puny Ibuprofen, like it knows I have Percocet and Vicodin in my room.

Squeeze 'em!

Thing is, I can't squeeze 'em too hard or they won't win the contract. It's the client who's squeezing.

I can afford to make less than I did before: I can't afford to not get a job at all, after 7 months out of work.

Argh. Yeah. I hope you don't get screwed too badly.

Good luck, Consuela!

I hope you don't get screwed too badly.

Since I had the heretical-for-Americans view that I was being rather overpaid in my last full-time job, the prospect of making a bit less for this gig is not horrifying. It's kind of the principle of the thing, I guess--we're never supposed to make LESS.

Ah, well. I'll find out more later. Now I'm off to the vet, and then to pick up Dad for an appointment, then race home, catch the bus to BART, go to work in the city for the afternoon. Then come home, walk the dog, change, go climbing.

Being unemployed is not nearly as restful as I was led to believe, I must admit...
