I'm annoyed that it's not a 1 inch cylinder (they used water bottles) because I can't figure out how an inch is really an inch in this system.
If the rain is evenly distributed across the plane parallel to the ground (just go with me here, we're gonna discount friction and drag as well) then it doesn't matter what diameter cylinder it is, an inch of verticality measures the same rate of rainfall.
I needed a day. I need to buy stain and varnish samples. And scrap pine. And gas up my car, do some bank shit and other minor errands. Since I also want to swim, I just decided to toss the whole day.
We are having folks over for an impromptu gathering in honor of a friend in from out of town tomorrow night. I should be cleaning right now, but I'm watching an episode of "The Saint" and slounging instead. I realized while driving home tonight that our gathering will include one Oscar nominee and one Oscar winner (both screenwriters).Pretty snazzy! Luckily, since they are merely writers, I'm pretty certain they will enjoy sitting around our small-but-comfy North Hollywood house and eating cheap take-out Thai food, since they have in the past.
I love watching the weather roll up the valley. Clouds are now hiding the mountains. I can see the world!
Oh, I love that part. Watching weather happen is like earthy magic.
AND, my team got a $10,000 award which we are going to spend on books, mostly non fiction -- Henrietta Lacks, A Few Seconds of Panic and Unbroken are my first choices.
ALL of the Henrietta Lacks. Until I read the other two, at least. I need to read more.

Scrappy, that sounds like a delightful evening.
Man, $35/month for thistle seed seems like a lot. But goldfinches are delightful, so I guess I'll keep doing it.
That sounds lovely, Scrappy, have a great time! How funny to realize you are having Oscar contenders/winners over for takeout.
I know what you mean, -t. I amuse myself every month trying to save a dollar or so on it, but it still adds up
Grow thistles yourselves! Cut out the middleman!
