brillig

Just spent a lovely evening watching the Olympics with Hubby. Short track speed skating, mayhem, speed, and geopolitical turmoil. The star of the Russian team used to skate for South Korea until they told him he was too old. So he moved to Russia, got citizenship, changed his name, dyed his hair red, and beat all the South Koreans in the finals.

And apologies to Prius drivers, that obnoxious "We don't take long vacations like Europeans do because we're winning achievers, and we went to the moon and they didn't, we're so awesome" electric car ad was for the Cadillac version.

All sorrows can be borne if you put them into a story. Tell me a story.

OK, I know this is real life and pretty terrible, but I just saw local news that there was an explosion in a ball bearing factory. Does that not sound like the set up to a joke??

That was in an episode of Hogan's Heroes.

"Faded like the lilac, he thought."

Yeah, it's the Mexican thing. Hell, half of what I cook anymore is Latin influenced in some way. I live in Arizona, what do you want from me?

But yeah, maybe I'll stop by Amelia's on the way home and see if they have king Arthur gluten free.

not your mom's socks.

Seconding the tamari. There are also GF pizzas, and salads / chicken grilled with veggies.

Ugh. Yesterday was beyond terrible in so many directions. Including a screed from a relative for not supporting her efforts to have "relationship moments" with HPF. Those moments being, apparently, the moments when she comes over an hour late (see also Xmas day and HPFs birthday), then immediately asks HPF to run up three flights of stairs to get her house shoes. Which is when I made a noise that earned me the happy fun screed. IDEK, but I think what HPF is going to remember from that is a lot of waiting and feeling like she was not a priority in this person's life. Is it too much if I put the house shoes in the person's bag so she doesn't need them fetched by anyone upon arrival?

Yes, same person who gave me a bill on my birthday. Why am I surprised/upset.

"I keep to a strict diet of ill-advised enthusiasm and heartfelt regret." Leigh Bardugo

Oh, Sox. That absolutely stinks. Perhaps HPF won't remember it that way at all (I hope) and instead filters out what makes her feel valued.

consuela, I watched that yesterday and woke up singing "Take a load off, Fanny." Well, not singing aloud, really, but just in my head. I really am charmed by Jimmy Fallon.

information libertarian

I am with you, Sox. I am trying to decide if I really have the strength to go on vacation with my mother for spring break. I have so much going on right now that I do not have the time or energy, and I pretty much never have the inclination for, the power struggle over where we go and what we do she is trying to enact right now. She is not teaching this semester and IT SHOWS. I tried to get her sidetracked into genealogy or something to keep her from pestering me, but so far that is not working.

Also, somebody apparently peed on a bookcase in the library last night. The antics of public library patrons are almost endless.

Why *does* soy sauce have wheat???

Every now and then, I think I might actually be a little odd.

I didn't know mold was used in making soy sauce! My extreme allergic reaction to mold may explain why I always have a bad reaction to Chinese food: I don't react to the ingredients separately, but I do tend to slather the dish in soy sauce.

Sometimes I trip on how happy we could be.

The last couple of seconds of that Jimmy Fallon clip are especially fun, if you didn't finish watching.

"Take a load off, Fanny."

I always thought it was Annie! Huh.
