Oh, at first it was confusing. Just the idea of computers was like — whoa! I'm eleven hundred years old! I had trouble adjusting to the idea of Lutherans.

I am a woman of various inclinations and only some of the time are they to burn everything down in frustration

Whew, I got the contents of the drying rack by the sink put away and the DVR finished it's little dance. Saved from housework by entertainment!

And then Ortus came and said "It's Ortin' time" and they all Orted off into the sunset

There is an honest-to-god anti-flouridation nut asking for "holistic dentist" recommendations on one of our local listservs...fortunately there is also an actual dentist responding to her so I don't have to.

(No, sugar is not an acid. No, the amount of flouride in American tap water will not cause flourosis. No, dental x-rays will not give you cancer. And WTF does the word "holistic" even mean in the context of someone who by definition only treats your TEETH?)

Damn, two ambulances at my neighbor's house. I'll be worrying and peering out the window for a while...

ETA: and two members of the household taken away on stretchers, but they walked out of the house with assistance rather than getting carried, and a third member of the household is apparently okay. Worrying but not peering out the window, now.

I must obey the inscrutable exhortations of my soul—Calvin and Hobbs

I just finished harvesting about 2/3s of a wheelbarrow full of compost from my bin and tossed it on the garden. We're expecting a lot of precipitation this coming week, so I hope it'll all melt into the garden and feed the spring growth next month. Now I'm inside, sniffly and shivering. I hope I'm not coming down with something. But if I am, I'm glad it held off until I got my shopping and gardening done.

My cousin who lives in Hawaii is apparently anti-flouridation, as I learned when he was rude on a Facebook post of mine recently. He is also now given to posting stuff about how he naturally heals himself using leaves. In every picture of his 4 month old daughter (named Asha - neither parent has Indian heritage) she is not wearing anything (like, no diaper). Further reinforcing what I said about him when I last saw him at his mother's funeral a year ago: There is nothing so boring as a self-righteous hippie.

Sometimes I trip on how happy we could be.

how he naturally heals himself using leaves

Sure, OK

I have done so many of my to-do items! Exciting.

They are magic Hawaiian leaves! (Edit: not even pot, though he certainly smokes a lot of that also.)

I have done so much laundry. Not that exciting.

Every four years I am suddenly in the thrall of the thighs of the male distance speed-skaters. And then forget about this when the Olympics aren't happening, only to be surprised next time.

Seriously, damn.

"Look, son, if it's good enough for Shirley Bassey, it's good enough for you."

He had a short story accepted into an anthology a few months ago and here it is!! He's searchable on Amazon!!

Right on, Miracleman! Joe! Joe! Joe!

Yay Joe!

So, I just went back to my list, and of course the three things left are the big ones. Oops. If I do my taxes tonight, I can do the laundry and ironing of curtains tomorrow. That works.

My glee at the new tax document was short lived. Turns out forgiven debts are considered income. So there's $18,000 of brand new income that's never had taxes paid on it that we got no benefit from. Time to run the numbers for filed married but separate versus how damned much we going to have to pay jointly. From what I can find out, student load debt is only forgiven tax free if you work at some job in the field you got the load for.
