Change is definitely scary, Frankenbuddha! I hope it's good in the end.

Off-topic discussion. Wanna talk about corsets, duct tape, or physics? This is the place. Detailed discussion of any current-season TV must be whitefonted.
Ooh, good luck, Frank!
I'm still in the yoga pants I put on to walk the dog this morning! Complete with dog hair!
It's definitely a good way to start off 2014. Granted, all the shit that happened in 2013 had nothing to do with work; work's been great through all this (though it is definitely taking too fucking long to get acclimated to my new commute and managing my truncated off time).
Well crappity. I finally talked to the scheduling gal and she wasn't able to work on any scheduling yesterday and apparently I'm on the bottom of her pile. She was kinda snippy which made me feel horrible for calling but she had said I'd hear from her yesterday.
So now I have to wait all weekend and I'm not sure if they are open or closed on Monday, so it will be Tuesday at the earliest. I do not do patience well.
Suzi, I can't remember. What are you trying to schedule?
Wow. I just found out my company has decided to make a concerted effort to upgrade the Legacy systems (my area) to current technologies
Since you are heavily involved, my two cents:
1) Choose an unmodified existing package, if you can avoid customization.
2) If you must customize, modify an existing package, ideally one with lots of built-in hooks for that purpose.
3) Avoid from coding from scratch. For anyone but a huge place, the chance of failure is high. Yes, some companies manage it successfully, but it is a huge risk. And every business feels like it is a special snow flake whose needs no standard package can meet, but about 99.99% of the time standard packages - either as is or slightly modified- can accommodate their work flow.
Foot surgery. The goal is to get it done soon enough that I can be walking again by late March.
There is a LOT going on over the next 3 months and I just want to start nailing things down. I don't know when the surgery will be, I won't know what is happening with my lease renewal/move until early February, but there will probably be a move in March/April, and then it will be late March before I know if I got the promotion/raise I have been asking for.
She was kinda snippy which made me feel horrible for calling but she had said I'd hear from her yesterday.
That is ridiculous. You should not feel bad! She should provide better customer service!
they're going to open a cider-based place downtown.
Yay! I love cider, and I'm glad to see it's undergoing a kind of renaissance.
SuziQ, it seems like a scheduling person should be able to contact people on schedule to let them know where they are in the schedule. So she shouldn't have been snippy--more like apologetic, really. I hope you can get your surgery soon.
