"I keep to a strict diet of ill-advised enthusiasm and heartfelt regret." Leigh Bardugo

I have a couple of mormon students who regularly talk about the terrible awfulness of coffee beverages. Ironically, they try to harass the teacher who is also an evangelical Christian. They all argue amongst themselves and, from the outside, it looks like the engagement of irrational religion-based rules.

Friends don't let friends read "Atlas Shrugged"

Reminds me of the time I saw the two Mormon "elders" talking with one of the Jehovah's Witness people ....

The Jehovah's Witnesses are kind of like the other team in a sports rivalry. Young Mormons dream of besting them in religious debate.

ION, I dreamed last night I was at a conference of some sort, talking to President Obama. I'm staring at a clipboard, and I say to him, "So who important is coming to this thing?" He's silent, I look up, and he's giving me A Look. I laugh and say, "I'm sorry, sir, who important other than you is going to be here?" Then the First Lady comes over, grabs my arm, and drags me over to some people in a hallway. "Help them with their investigation," she tells me, and leaves.

I don't normally dream of the Obamas. Odd.

"Faded like the lilac, he thought."

Well, did you help them with their investigation?

I had my first lucid dream last night and was able to deliberately fly briefly. It was pretty fun.

Sometimes I think I might just move up to Vermont, open a bookstore or a vegan restaurant. Adam Schlesinger, z''l

I know I'm late on the statistics question, but most high schools now try to get most college-bound students on a math track that leads to calculus senior year. This track does nothave statistic, except maybe a chapter or two thrown in somewhere junior year, in pre-calc. For the students who aren't on that track, different schools and different states have different standards and different classes. Some of them might have a class that includes statistics among other topics, junior or senior year. Others might take AP Statistics senior year, if they want another AP class to list on their college applications but don't want to take calc, since statistics is usually thought of as easier.

And then Ortus came and said "It's Ortin' time" and they all Orted off into the sunset

I really loved calc, but in retrospect I think statistics and probability would have been a more useful life skill.

The team was in a back hallway with very substandard decoration, interviewing people on folding chairs. I got handed a pile of paper and told to look up the relevant computer files. When I woke up I was still trying to figure out their database access protocols and their terminology.

I had to drop my stats class because it was 8:30 Friday morning at the Law School, which was at the top of a very steep icy hill. (In Montreal, you gotta consider these things.) I could've handled one of those things but not both.
