After the shooting here a month ago, there were problems with the emergency communication system to parents. We didn't get any official communication from the district until about 7 hours after the shooting. Since then they have been testing and implementing new proceedures.
I just got a notice that there was a chemical spill in one of the charter school chemistry classes, so that school is closed for the afternoon. Ok. I get that there is a balance between too much info and just enough...but really? The whole district needed to be notified?
Didn't mean to quiet the thread.
I stopped by the management office and yes, my apartment is up for renovation. She said I would likely have two choices. The first is to do an "inhabited renovation", which means all my stuff needs to move to the garage and I need to move me and CJ elsewhere for 2 weeks (at my expense). My rent would go up to the renovated apartment cost - estimated at an additional $250/month. Or I could move to another apartment in the complex, potentially moving from a 3 bedroom to a 2 bedroom and potentially getting a break on rent that way.
Then she added that the complex will pay for movers to move my stuff - either in and out of my garage or to a new apartment. That is making me consider the apartment move option. I saw my maintenance guy on my way to my place and asked him about the movers. He said they are good. The complex will pay for 3 hours of their time. Shoot, if they can take care of my furniture, I can get the boxes moved.
I won't get the official notice for another few weeks, but I can start looking at the 2 bedroom floor plans and figure what I'd like.
That sounds like it could be a financial benefit, Suzi. Except for having less space, of course.

That sounds like a decent option, hopefully.
Our movers have "respectfully declined" to pay for our missing vacuum that didn't arrive here with the rest of the household goods.
We're going to have a respectful conversation about that tomorrow.
"We are respectfully suing you in a very respectable small claims court."
Timelies all!
Raining here. There had been some talk of "wintry mix" tomorrow, but I'll wait and see on that.
"Wintry mix" sounds like it should come with more peanuts.

That is super cool (npi) and pretty.
Seriously, if you have a mandoline, the prep takes ten minutes, and a couple of weeks later you have sauerkraut.
I don't have one, but I can deal, because I will start small.
Started out super stressed this morning, and it has eased with each passing couple of hours. I think some tea when I get home, and I'll be good. Lots of other stuff would work, too, but tea is what I've got.
Suzi, good options. That 3 hours of free movers thing is awesome.

WTF? How is that optional?
A friend offered to watch the kids this afternoon, thus allowing me to get some much needed work finished. phew!
