'we all walk this earth feeling we are frauds. The trick is to be grateful and hope the caper doesn't end any time soon"

I was out at a friends' low-key party where there was plenty of good food, fun talk, and party favors. It was a very good way of starting the year.

Sir, it's not an offence to let your cat eat your bacon. Okay? And we don't arrest cats, I'm very sorry.

I stayed home last night and had some sake. This morning I was all set to go to my favorite breakfast place at 8:00, only to discover they open at 10:00. So I've just been sitting around waiting.

Timelies all!

Happy New Year!

Now let us crush something soft and watch it fountain blood. That is a girlish thing to want to do, yes?

Happy new year, buffistae!

I hab a code, so we stayed in last night; a couple of friends and their charming infant came over for pizza and games, and I'm pretty sure the 2-month-old outlasted me given how alert and smiley she was when they left. Still, a fun low-key evening.

May 2014 be full of only the good kind of interesting times!

I went to bed at 1030 last night, but that does mean I was awake when my alarm went off at 8, and am ready to go run a 5k. Yay? God I feel old.

I am a woman of various inclinations and only some of the time are they to burn everything down in frustration

I went to bed at 8:30, set the alarm for 11:45pm, got up for midnight, tried to take the dog outside but he was having none of it (the fireworks were super loud, I don't blame him),read for a while, went back to bed with no alarm set, and got up at 6:30. But I am still working on making breakfast (something like a Spanish tortilla, because I have potatoes and a frittata pan). Efficiency is not my strong suit, it seems. But I did enjoy the sunrise and fed the birds so I get to watch them eat while I slowly get going, so that's nice.

For the record, when the year has a 1 in the middle, they should not make those new years glasses! IJS.

You are not wrong. I thought they were recycling glasses from 2004 at first glance.

All sorrows can be borne if you put them into a story. Tell me a story.

It is a winter wonderland out there. I may wish I had snowshoes when it's time to go to the train tomorrow.

I think I'm going to make the squash soup I made for Thanksgiving and freeze some of it. That was a good hearty soup.

If you're going through hell/keep on going/don't slow down/keep your fear from showing/you might be gone/'fore the devil even knows you're there

I am so in love with my new snowpants I can't even. I feel bad for all the hours my mom spent wrestling me into them as a kid, when I was too stupid to know that snowboots and snowpants are awesome.

We are Buffistas. This isn't our first apocalypse. -- Pix

Happy New Year, Buffistae!

I had dinner with my sister's family & Dad, and we toasted Mom and drank a really good bottle of cabernet. (Turns out my SIL had left it, and after we opened it I looked it up--it was a $75 bottle!) Then we went to a neighbor's house, where there was quite a nice party. But I drank too much over the course of the evening, and now I have a headache.

Breakfast was one of the sticky buns and a slice of fruitcake, and a big pot of darjeeling. Later there will be hiking.

Start the year as you mean to go on: I suspect that means I will have dirty bowls in the sink all year, but there's nothing new about that.
