Greece's financial crisis threatens to take down all of Western civilization - a civilization they themselves founded. A rather tragic irony - which is something they also invented. - Jon Stewart

Next year I'm instituting a Fairytale of New York game. You win that one by hearing it the most without intentionally putting it on.

In the spirit of Christmas you can put it on to up other people's scores.

I'm so sorry, msbelle. I wish there were easier ways to say goodbye to people we love.

Sometimes I think I might just move up to Vermont, open a bookstore or a vegan restaurant. Adam Schlesinger, z''l

I submitted final grades for the semester. So far, two emails from students who want to negotiate their grades. I'm figuring I'll probably get two or three more by the end of the day.

Sometimes I trip on how happy we could be.

I just interviewed two people, and remembered one of my issues as an interviewer: When I like the person, I'm done in 20 minutes. Which doesn't really seem fair to the person who came all this way...

Cats to become a rabbit should gather immediately now here

I have interviewed student workers that I liked in 5 minutes! It is very embarrassing. I think they think they are not hired, but I often hire them. Of course, my requirement for student workers is mostly that I like them!

Because books.

Jesse, you love crosswords, yes?

I do! (Although I haven't done one in an age.)

I am glad I'm not alone. This was two finalists for an entry-level position, so seriously I was mostly looking for vibe, since they were both qualified. And both white women. I seriously cannot hire one more white woman, and yet? Might have to.

Because books.

Do you want "Cunning Crosswords: 75 Challenging Puzzles," which is a NY Times thing, edited by Will Shortz? I didn't notice the "challenging" part when I bought it, and they're all too frustrating for me, since I tend to do them at night when I'm tired. There are maybe two in the whole book with a few words completed.

Okay! I just ran over to Garrett's and picked up a gallon of cheese popcorn for my dad, so I think all of my Christmas shopping is now sorted. My out of office message is on. My train leaves in 80 minutes.

I'm pretty sure I have presents, my eyeglasses, and my drugs. I'm so exhausted from being out every night this week that both of my eyes are twitching from the tired.
