Twelve. Which would technically mean thirteen doctors, so I guess they have one left up their sleeve.
I think that's canon that they may conveniently forget.
I think there has been recent-ish dialog implying that the 12 regenerations isn't hard and fast.
Wibbly wobbly, timey wimey!
My understanding was 12 regeneration, 13 possible doctors. But then River transferred her remaining regenerations to him so that could be used for hand-wavium more options.
I just saw kittens in a pool table, and I was going to send it to the good stuff tumblr. Then u realized I was looking at the good things tumblr.
Aw!
ION, ffs. My grandmother is back at the hospital, this time because of her throat thing. My mother left her there, and is hoping she can stay until tomorrow afternoon, but I offered to go get her if she should leave earlier. So we'll see.
But Peter Davison himself was a decade younger than any other Doctor from the original series when he took the mantle
And now that's precedent. There are only 12 of them. One guy being 30 isn't lost in the hubbub. Lost in the there-was-Who-before-2005-why-do-they-start-numbering-at-nine? I can see that.
I thought I read somewhere that it was cannon the the Doctor got younger with each regeneration
The third Doctor was older than the second, so if it was canon, it wasn't canon for long.
I remember the Master being offered a new regeneration cycle in The Five Doctors, so apparently the limits are (or rather, were) imposed by the Time Lords rather than inherent in the regeneration process itself.
