Speaking of pain, last night I woke up about 3:50 and could not fall asleep because my hip/whatever hurt. I took Advil, took a bath, but really no go. At 6:20 I decided I would rest my eyes for a few minutes! You can see where this is going. Now I am already a half hour late, and I still need to ride the bus for at least 40 minutes.
There is only one cab company in Rochester that takes credit cards, and they aren't answering their phone!
Somewhat relatedly, probably due to the movie, I always believed office workers worked 9 to 5. Now it seems almost everyone I know works 8 am - 5:00, with a lunch. Did things change or was the movie wrong?
I am also awake. This vacation has kinda sucked for that--I've only slept past 8am one day, and that was until 10--after being up until 1am. We are at the airport, heading to the family wedding.
I work 9-5, which has been the official hours most places I've worked, even though 9-6 was generally more normal in NYC.
Oh, man, I want very badly to take that Science and Cooking class, but I don't think I can.
Every office job I've had has been along the lines of 8:30-5 because of not getting paid for lunch.
If you worked hourly, 9-5, did you only get paid for 37.5 hours?
Standard hours here are 8:30-4:30 with an hour unpaid lunch. I work 8:30-4:45 with a half hour lunch (most of the time) which gives me every other Monday off. (Welcome to the velvet prison.)
I would have had to clock out for lunch, and not taking lunch was not an option, although some places were more strict about that than others (depending on how much trouble they had gotten into for breaking labor laws previously, I assume). Usually (always until now? Maybe) I was a temp, which might make a difference.
Eta: now I work 7-3:30 but I am salaried so the whole vibe is different
I am super interested in that cooking and science class.
I am taking a French class through work. I am learning stuff, but I am terrible when called on to speak. My brain seizes up and I forget words I've known for years. I always feel like I am the worst in the class. I know I need to practice more, and I was keener in the spring. For this summer course, I just don't wanna.
Last job called the work week 35 hours, this one calls it 40 -- I book 8 hours when I am here for 8 hours, even though obviously there is lunch. I don't know what hourly people do, or people who charge their time to projects.

Shakespeare: On the Page and in Performance.
This course will try to understand both Shakespeare’s popularity and his greatness by starting from a simple premise: that the fullest appreciation of Shakespeare can be achieved only when literary study is combined with analysis of the plays as theatre.
As always, I am wondering if the prof is any good.
