Oh, at first it was confusing. Just the idea of computers was like — whoa! I'm eleven hundred years old! I had trouble adjusting to the idea of Lutherans.

Well not canonically, no, but this is transformative fiction.

I have *never* had a medical professional put the pain scale into more context than "ten is the worst pain you can conceive of." The cartoon faces on the chart (that nurses are supposed to use to read you) are laughable.

I've only shown one nurse tending to me the Hyperbole & a Half scale, but she laughed her ass off.

"And to be clear, I am the hell. And the high water."

Yes, the H&AH scale is about right. I like that at 4 starts the "pain is not fucking around" stage.

"I remember when they eventually introduced that drug kingpin who murdered people and smuggled drugs inside snakes and I was like 'Finally. A normal person.'” —RahvinDragand

Based on that scale, I had thought my gall bladder pain was a 7, but apparently it was a hard 8 and maybe a 9.

According to that scale I've had several injuries due to falls that would rank as a 9, since they forced involuntary moans out of me and were completely incapacitating until the pain faded. But I've heard 9 described as the pain associated with metastasized cancer, and I've only had a couple of brief moments of pain during medical procedures that I think could compare to that. For context, the rebar to the face would not, since I was still ambulatory after it.

My (thankfully rare!) worst migraines would be an 8 on the scale and most level off around a 3 or 4 if I don't get meds in my system fast enough to head them off.

Somewhat less usefully than Hyperbole and a Half.

"And to be clear, I am the hell. And the high water."

Has anyone here tried The Fasting Diet? I heard about it on NPR and am interested in what buffistas have to say.

"I keep to a strict diet of ill-advised enthusiasm and heartfelt regret." Leigh Bardugo

le nubian, I like eggs quite a lot, but can't handle scrambled when it is dry and crumbly. I don't know what it is (for me, at home, it's replicated by cooking the eggs to non creaminess by having a too hot pan), but I can't imagine what they would have to do for a crepe.

I figure the pain scale is not useful and is, of course, entirely subjective. I will say when I had kidney stones the first time, I wanted to claw my way out of own skin because of the unremitting pain and there was no position that I found that relieved the pain. The second set of kidney stones were much easier to deal with and I felt like, huh, this blows, but if I drink my weight in water, I can tough it out.

LeN, the real egg answer is that you're late to the reality where they taste disgusting.

Don't fight the feeling.

Punishingly Intricate

I think the only pain I've had that was close to a 9 was my last mammogram. That almost made me pass out. But was over super quick so I don't think it counts much. I've been very lucky.

le n, whenever I hear about The Fasting Diet I always think "I could totally do that." But then I haven't actually gone on to try it so, ime, it's not a very effective diet! I don't think I know anyone who's tried it.

Sometimes I trip on how happy we could be.

I just put a zucchini bread in the oven, along with tomatoes and onions to roast. That wasn't a mistake, was it? Will my bread taste like onions now?
