Writing for a popular audience. "Heuristic" is shorter, but I'm considering "rule-of-thumb". How obscure is "heuristic"?
Spike's Bitches 48: I Say, We Go Out There, and Kick a Little Demon Ass.
[NAFDA] Spike-centric discussion. Lusty, lewd (only occasionally crude), risqué (and frisqué), bawdy (Oh, lawdy!), flirty ('cuz we're purty), raunchy talk inside. Caveat lector.
All my ~ma for Connie and Hubby. I'm hoping everything went well.
I spent some time today with my friend who is beginning treatment for esophageal cancer tomorrow. He's in good spirits, but is obviously scared.
It's just so fraught and unfair. He really has turned himself around from being a terrible, terrible person. Today, I was musing about how proud I am of the changes he's made and how it seems so ironic/sad that he adopted a super healthy lifestyle and now has to deal with.
In a spooky, synchronized moment, we both said, "Maybe you are just ready to deal with it now" as in, when he was horrible, he might not have had the tools he has now.
In other news, something amazing happened today... The owner of the pet care company and I have been working for two years on franchising her company. Nobody tells you what a slog that process is...seriously. Tedious and frustrating just doesn't cover it.
We are thisclose to finishing the entire shebang and she said she wanted to give me a gift for all the hard work. (My bff continually says I don't get paid enough)
When I went down stairs, what did I find at the front door?
A VITAMIX, y'all!
I nearly passed out. I'm not given to the vapors, I really am not. Today, I cried.
I just finished watching the Getting Started dvd.
If Vitamix has a cult, I want to join! Where do I sign up? Is there a uniform? I will wear sandals in the winter, no kidding.
I am BESIDE myself with glee.
Connie, I'm glad things went well today and am holding hope that Wednesday proves to be better than expected.
What a drag that the staff has to be all cya. Tedious and annoying, for sure.
I'm imagining the microscopic drug units coursing through Hubby's body in teeny, tiny Viking helmets, decimating their foes and leaving the healthy villages unharmed.
Blessings on you both.
Heuta-what? I've never heard that word, and I have a lit degree and got a perfect score on verbal SATs, so I'm pretty far above the average audience.
And yay for kicking chemo butt!
Eta: don't mean to sound braggy or rude, just that I vote for obscure. I also used to read the dictionary for fun. Clearly didn't make much progress in the "h"s
However, turns out she hadn't thought the nausea was bad enough for the drugs, and the swelling and reddening around her incision wasn't really that bad.
I don't want to denigrate the experiences of people who've had bad chemo reactions, but many of the people I talk to or hear about these days had bad reactions after they did something stupid, like not taking nausea medication or being on some crazy diet.
I hope things continue to go well, Connie.
I drove to all my chemo, because it didn't hit me until the next morning.
le n, does it help if you take probiotics and eat all the yogurt? I don't have a rec on the other stuff, sorry.
How obscure is "heuristic"?
Very. Says someone else who got a perfect score on the verbal SATs [brag] and never heard that word until I started editing for IEEE.
Connie, hopefully things continue to go well.
Le Nubian, my solution to that has always been garlic, (details whitefonted) peel a clove of garlic - carefully so it's not nicked in anyway, wrap it in a piece of cheesecloth, tie it with unflavored dental floss and insert it like a tampon over night. Remove in the morning and maybe flush the area with plain water. Some women don't like this method because if you cut the garlic the juice can burn and also some places suggest leaving it in during the day and there's the worry about smelling like garlic. Personally when I've had a yeast infection the garlic method takes care of the burning/itching right away and it's usually resolved within 3 days.
