Angel: Only if they're giant. Or demons. Or giant demons. Are they giant demon snakes? Lorne: Well, unless this guy's 30 feet tall, I'm thinking they're of the garden variety.

"Look, son, if it's good enough for Shirley Bassey, it's good enough for you."

That's great news, Laura! I love those kinds of reconnections.

I'm freaking out and it's not going to get better any time soon.

A local institution, the neighborhood hardware store, which I have referred to here as 'the magic box' is on fire.

The paint store went first and now the four story, jam packed main store is going up. Firefighters can't get to it, the smoke is so thick, so they are just hitting it with water from a distance.

This is four blocks from my house. The smoke plume has been seen several miles away.

I put down the storm windows and turned on the air conditioner, but I can still smell the toxic smoke.

I don't have anywhere to go, or a way to get there even if I did!

I've put a damp towel over my nose, but I can't do anything for Cagney.

How could this beautiful day turn into Hell?

Our wings are not tired.

Oh Bonny! How scary. The A/C may actually be bringing in the smoke. If it isn't too warm you might turn it off. I hope they are able to get this under control quickly.

eta: Does Cagney seem aware?

Thanks, Laura.

I turned off the a/c, turned on my vaporizer and sequestered us in the office. We are two rooms away from the front windows, rug blocking the bottom of the door.

I am drinking tea to try and get the icky feeling out of my throat.

Cagney is aware that I am upset, but he does not seem to be having trouble breathing so far.

Not so nice is that I'm about to ruin a Friday morning for a bunch of people because of a series of unfortunate events and an upset foreign government. - shrift

bonny, stay safe. I have two friends who are fighting the fire. Fingerscrossed for everyone.

Oh my. Strength to your friends, Maria.

WTOP says four firefighters have already gone to the hospital.

Every now and then, I think I might actually be a little odd.

Oh, dear. Be safe, firefighters and everyone in the vicinity of the fire!

Love is stronger than death and harder than sorrow. Those who practice it are fierce like the light of stars traveling eons to pierce the night.

Snirk. I've waited years for my own tropical storm.

bonny, I really, really wish I could swoop in, but that is just not practical. I hope your measures keep you safe.

Sending vibes for the firefighters, too.

Aw Andi, thanks.

Some pretty good friends called from across the river to get the dirt. When I talked about having trouble breathing, and being scared, the friend on the phone breezily chirped, "Hey, okay. Tell us if you hear any more news."

Thanks, Dude.

If I lived in their house, with their two cars, I'd have been across the river in minutes to collect _them_.

Ah well.
