I got a lot done yesterday in terms of clean up in the house because I was having people over. I had every intention of getting more done today, but I only thing I managed to clean out was the DVR. Apparently I need to have people over every day if I want to be productive.
Spike's Bitches 48: I Say, We Go Out There, and Kick a Little Demon Ass.
[NAFDA] Spike-centric discussion. Lusty, lewd (only occasionally crude), risqué (and frisqué), bawdy (Oh, lawdy!), flirty ('cuz we're purty), raunchy talk inside. Caveat lector.
People coming over is a great motivator for me. Knowing that people could drop by nearly any time is a good motivator for me to keep things at a just barely ready for company. Except the kitchen. That is a disaster randomly. But can be cleaned in 20 intense minutes at worst.
May I offer this to help you get in the Christmas spirit.
I am suddenly feeling some holiday spirit.
Erma Bombeck wrote that, too, that she had parties to fix up her house.
I did not get much done today, other than grocery shopping, cooking, and parent-teacher conferences. Didn't touch anything on the executor to-do list. Decided I would give myself the day off.
I was planning on cooking tonight (did the grocery shopping for it yesterday), but I got home from work and was totally exhausted for some reason. So, microwaved some frozen burritos for dinner. I'm trying to stay awake until 10, because I know that, if I go to sleep earlier, then I'll wake up ridiculously early. Plus, Supernatural is on at 9. I should straighten up my apartment a bit, since the cleaning service is coming tomorrow, but, well, exhausted. And also cold.
PS--Franny's teacher describes her as "wonderful, artistic, and creative" (That roughly translates to "yes, your little gifted angel is working at grade level because she could give a rat's ass about grades. Don't worry about it). Isaac's teacher raved about him and called him "really something special." So that went well.
Well done, Burrell spawn!
We had our Parent-Teacher Conference today also.
Matilda is slightly behind grade level in reading, and a bit ahead in Math. Which is basically Bizarro!JZ. (Well, JZ was way ahead verbal when she started school and never caught up in Math.)
But he obviously really likes Matilda and wasn't worried about the reading (and she does see a reading specialist several times a week as she tries to "decode" words).
Reading is so idiosyncratic. It takes as long as it takes. I know Franny was an almost!reader for a long long time, then a struggling reader, and then there was Harry Potter.
My take is that Matilda would have benefited from the pre-phonics era as she likes to sight read the word instead of sounding it out. And she just hasn't built up enough words she recognizes by sight yet.
Pre-phonics? I learned to read in the phonics age. Is phonics back in fashion?
