They haven't been activated. Swift water rescue is a specific set of skills and there are other teams that specialize in that. It was a very quiet search and rescue summer. I think they only had one mountain search and a couple of in town searches.
Spike's Bitches 48: I Say, We Go Out There, and Kick a Little Demon Ass.
[NAFDA] Spike-centric discussion. Lusty, lewd (only occasionally crude), risqué (and frisqué), bawdy (Oh, lawdy!), flirty ('cuz we're purty), raunchy talk inside. Caveat lector.
Go and see the kids, sj. Whatever else happened, I've rarely regretted making that call.
Congrats, Suzi!
Okay, let's talk wedding makeup. Best cry-proof mascara recommendations were Blinc and Diorshow, right?
I do Blinc on my lower lashes and DiorShow Waterproof on the top because even waterproof will eventually smudge on my skin. I ooze makeup remover or something. But the Blinc only comes off with warm water and light pressure, so on the lowers it both doesn't smudge and provides somewhat of a barrier for my upper lashes smudging under my eyes.
I only like the DiorShow and DiorShow Waterproof. The DiorShow Iconic has a different brush and I loathed it. The formula was pretty good but I was never happy because it was the wrong, wrong, wrong brush for me.
Woo! And might I add, Hoo! Suzi, congrats!
Yes, that is my thinking, Cass. Unless I wake up too anxious or in too much pain to drive, I'm going.
Congratulations, Suzi!
What an achievement, Suzi! Congrats!
I just realized I didn't schedule my massage for tomorrow. It is a week from tomorrow. Blast. Instead I have a meeting from 9 - 12 and then out for birthday dinner for KCD.
Oh, and my dad is staying here tonight also, I thought he was just staying last night. Not that it is a problem, but it is the second morning in a row that I'll be out the door early.
Thank you for all the birthday happies, guys. They really mean a lot :)
Y'all have helped me so much through the years. I'm hoping to lean on you again as I play "Ginger beats the odds."
Ginger, you'll go all Klingon on those odds. They don't stand a chance.
Congratulations, Suzi!
Also Making Light explains the creation of the Christian gospels by analogy to fandom, blogging, fan conventions.
Fascinating. I'm too tired to read it all tonight, but it's very interesting.
BTW, in case anyone is worried the Making Light piece is definitely not anti-Christian. Just using an funny analogy to explain a fascinating and underdiscussed bit of history. One side note: this piece reveals that the actual Saint Nicholas is MUCH more interesting than Santa Claus/Father Christmas. (Of course a lot of the stuff from his lifetime may be no truer - but still, even if just as false a much more interesting tale.) A Bishop who patrolled the docks with the time's equivalent of brass knuckles to take down thieves, who carried gold with him to redeem women from debt, and whose powers of deduction were so great that people came to him to find solutions to crimes nobody else could solve. St Nicholas was not Santa Claus - he was freaking Batman!
