Zoe: What's that, sir? Mal: Freedom, is what. Zoe: No, I meant what's that? Mal: Oh. Yeah. Just step around it. I think something must've been living in here.

'Out Of Gas'

Spike's Bitches 48: I Say, We Go Out There, and Kick a Little Demon Ass.

[NAFDA] Spike-centric discussion. Lusty, lewd (only occasionally crude), risqué (and frisqué), bawdy (Oh, lawdy!), flirty ('cuz we're purty), raunchy talk inside. Caveat lector.

this mess was yours / now your mess is mine

My doctor's office has a policy that a missed appointment (i.e., not cancelled 24 hours or more before the appointment time) will still incur a charge. Does your agency have a policy like that, that's clearly stated? Because if it does, I don't see how this fool could think he has any recourse.

"And to be clear, I am the hell. And the high water."

but doctor's offices also call to confirm.

my doctor's office doesn't necessarily charge, but 3 missed appts and they may discharge you as a patient.

They need to point out how TELEPATHIC dialogue is indicated. I love this.

That is awesome.

I emailed the girl when I got back to the hotel last night, and she was like "no, you sensed correctly I wasn't into it, I didn't realize inviting you in for coffee was a signal". Pardon as I think my head against the table. Also now I feel extra-awkward for having tried to kiss her as I left.

Compassionately intolerant

Yep. In big 'ol black and white.

And, as if today wasn't enough of a customer service circus, the guy who's Golden Retriever attacked a neighbor's cat...and our walker did not report the incident (cowardly bastard, shoulda been fired but was not) to us...wants us to zero out his multi-hundred dollar invoice because his dog has a prey drive and we should have somehow seen the cat under the bush and kept his dog from lunging at it.

The incident came at the end of a 3 day boarding, wherein the dog got the care we promised. We have already paid the $500 vet bill for the cat.

I said no but NOW he has all sorts of information about the incident that was not reported to us in the two weeks we've been dealing with this...and he's lowered his demand to taking a day, plus transport costs, off the bill.

If the owner decides to acquiesce, I'm demanding the employee remit that cost. Jeebus. Can NO ONE take responsibility for their own rubbish?

Life moves pretty fast. You don't stop and look around once in a while, you could miss it.

To change the subject, Edward Steichen came up on myMetropolitan Page A Day calendar. I think he kinda looks like Tom Hiddleston. [link] Anyway, he's definitely a famous dead hottie.

Well not canonically, no, but this is transformative fiction.

but doctor's offices also call to confirm

For me, that's not part of the contract--they say they'll charge me, they don't say they'll call me. I gotta get my ass to shit or pay the price they stated. I agreed to it by making an appointment, not by receiving a confirmation call.

Though, shit, tired of the auto-calls. Thankfully one of the last was a person, because it was a wrong appointment, so I told her so and who to talk to (I'm the assistant's best friend by now, or worst), and ten minutes after she called I got the robo call that doesn't even give full appointment details, so only mildly useful if I had forgotten.

Why did Darth Vader cross the road? To get to the Dark Side!

I didn't realize inviting you in for coffee was a signal

??? Okay, even putting aside for a moment the question of signals (I'm with you on that one), there's more than a bit of equivocation behind not being into the date but not wanting to definitively move to end it either. I vote wishy-washy.

Besides, I really don't get the not-getting the hottitude that is meara.

Well not canonically, no, but this is transformative fiction.

What's wrong with wanting to spend a little more time with someone you don't want to kiss? Especially if a) you don't know there's a kiss code and b) you're trying to work out if you want to kiss them.

If someone had come in and posted that they'd been on a date and they'd invited a guy in for coffee but made no moves and he made a move on her, wouldn't the response be anywhere from "there's a code! he's gonna expect action!" to "it's your right not to kiss anyone, you didn't lead him on." But "wishy washy"?
