I agree with Amy, Steph. And good luck!
Jake applied for one job yesterday, online, and looked at me like I was going to praise him.
Oh my, they are one. Brendon thinks that having a friend trying to get him in somewhere qualifies as job hunting. DH favors a military option, likely because his father was career Air Force. I feel it would be a terrible fit because authority is his number one issue. Also, he would never go for that plan anyway.
Have no advice on the slacking front, except my stepbrother used to totally be like that(and more)
Thanks. The one thing that keeps me from curling up in the corner and sobbing with a bottle in hand is my core belief that he will figure it out. He is smart, and a good person. If he doesn't do something life changing or ending, then he will make a fine human as an adult.
Part of my discomfort today is a business acquaintance loss. Daughter of 2 medical doctors, working on her masters, every advantage in the world. Dead at 28. History of drug and alcohol abuse. They are doing an autopsy to see what happened. Needless to say her family is devastated. There is just such a fine line between letting them find their own way and losing them. My sister lost her son at 23 and my best friend hers at 31 after substance abuse issues. It is just so hard. You can't chain them to the bedpost.

THIS. Jesus, they are the same. He's been back here ten days, and has said already, "Bryce might get me a job [where he works]." Uh huh.
I'm sorry about your loss, Laura. It's so sad.
And Steph, I didn't mean to sound pushy about the job question.
Oh, no, you weren't -- I was making my lunch and dealing with the dog and e-mailing my mom to tell her that if she is going to respond to my stress over job-hunting while planning a wedding by telling me "the stress has got to go!" then that's not helpful to me and I will stop telling her honestly about what's going on in my life. Even though keeping it bottled up is driving me nuts. Digression.
Anyway, the publisher is called Samhain Publishing. Their books might be crappy -- I should probably download some of their eBooks and see for myself -- but I can certainly edit, you know? (Plus they have an m/m book titled "Junk." I am DEAD SERIOUS. How can I pass that up?)
(Cross posted...DO read their stuff, of course.
Have you ever written any fanfic in their genres? That might be an in as well.
Steph, I think the way you put it is perfect. "I'm comfortable with m/m..."
You may even mention if you have ever read any titles or authors that they might know.
This would reassure them that you are actually their demographic and if you read their product, you are down with their mission. That way, it isn't you exposing personal expertise, but sharing in their success.
Once you have the job, I would totally suggest making clear that you are the in-house expert...if you want that gig.
Oh, Samhain's been around for a while. And a LOT of their books are going to be erotic and/or erotica one way or another. I would definitely let them know it's not a problem for you.
Their books might be crappy
They would be so much less crappy with your editing! Just sayin'.
if you read their product, you are down with their mission.
To make money while pandering to the lurid tastes of the masses!
But I don't suppose that would work as part of a cover letter on an application.

They're based here. I did not know that. The position is freelance and WFH, which is totally fine, so it doesn't matter where they're located, but it's just funny that I didn't know they were based here.
But I don't suppose that would work as part of a cover letter on an application.
"I have 18 years' experience editing and I am SO DOWN with hot guy-on-guy action. Also, did I mention I own an asshook?"
(Spoiler: I DON'T.)
I'm still tripping balls on migraine drugs and really want to reply to their e-mail with that. But I won't.
