Sunil, fill out the time card at the beginning of the pay period. If you have to take unexpected leave, then go back and fix it. It's not weird to input hours you haven't worked. I'm pretty sure your boss won't approve it until the end, to ensure you've actually worked those hours. Then the task is done, and your name will no longer be taken in vain by HR/Payroll.
Oddly at my company, although we have various project codes, we have to complete the time sheets two days before the end of the period so out bosses can approve. Which makes no sense to me, but whatever.
I still get paid regardless, though. The money is directly deposited whether or not I've submitted my timecard.
I am absolutely awful at timecards. I also only report 8 hours a day no matter if I'm over. The codes don't cover everything I do, so there's a pretty large fudge factor, and that system is my nemesis. They want it weekly, but they need it monthly and I'm always down to the wire with no excuse.
I need to try daily until I can trust myself with weekly.
p-c, I hate doing timesheets too. I get paid salary based on hourly, and comp time instead of OT, so, it's always going to be 40, since comp time is generally not approved. After 13 years of salary and not time card, it wasn't part of my routine. I downloaded the free version of HoursTracker app (which is available for Android), and within a couple days, I paid the few bucks for the paid version (no ads). You create accounts, and log in times for each account/project. And on the iPhone, it has a badge showing you clocked in on a project. Which is handy at the end of the day, when you check your emails, or start your music, you can see "oh crap, gotta time out". And now that I'm doing book-on-tape for the drive, I clock in as I stop the book, and clock out as I restart it for the ride home. Check out hourstrackerapp.com
Yeah, as a business owner who has to deal with payroll, I can say it's a real thorn in my side when people don't submit time cards.
I have a very simple way of seeing it. My employees expect their checks or direct deposit to arrive on time each week, therefore I expect them to submit their hours on time.

Huh. This might explain it. Last few weeks, been working on the New Swan Theater (our "portable" 15 ton outdoor summer Shakespeare theater). And I really dislike it, as it drains the energy from me, and it's on the other side of campus. Well, the Master Electrician brought his laser temperature reader yesterday. The ambient temperature was 77ºF. The floor of the theater (particle board shellacked within an inch of it's life), with the mid-day sun beating on it, measured 168ºF. Yeah. It's an oven. That explains why on the big load in day, I drank over 2 liters of water, but only pissed once. I feel better in knowing why I'm so tired. But still don't want to go over there to finish the last of the notes.
Wine, wine, wine. We are on our third tasting. Already have 8 bottles of wine in the car - gratis from a friend in the industry.
