[NAFDA] Spike-centric discussion. Lusty, lewd (only occasionally crude), risqué (and frisqué), bawdy (Oh, lawdy!), flirty ('cuz we're purty), raunchy talk inside. Caveat lector.

"Look, son, if it's good enough for Shirley Bassey, it's good enough for you."

Hey, David or JZ, I keep meaning to ask this. I have a few Powerpuff Girls things that I was wondering if Matilda might like. Specifically, a lunch box, a stamp set, and some other miscellaneous knickknacks. (I am keeping the plush MojoJojo for myself.)

Oh, she'd love it! Thanks for thinking of her.

Done! But, eh, just read the second one because the first one fired off incomplete.

And, thank you!

Friends don't let friends read "Atlas Shrugged"

Frickin' website is launching, even as I post. With frantic, last-minute "tweaks" (i.e., reformat this page) messages flying at me.

From our last meeting to clean up the site - I had one person bitching at me because page titles (set by the style sheet, with no size editing possible) because in the font used, numbers (i.e., "2013") look smaller than the text. Which no one mentioned in the past THREE MONTHS. Then another director was saying that SHE got yelled at for manually changing the font sizes, without using the preset styles, but *I* used more than one size on some pages; then, this same person, when people were hassling her about not having come anywhere near completing the content of her section (which - surprise - she refused to let me work on) in the past three months, got angry, stomped out in a huff, and went home for the day. Said she was working on it from home but, somehow, the next morning - surprise! - her section was still pretty much empty.

I'm REALLY looking forward to going to the dentist ....

"It didn't taste good. It tasted soooo horrible. It tasted like....a vodka martini." - Matilda

Yeah, the dentist gives you anesthesia.

I have worked on a number of websites, and yours is giving a new meaning to clusterfuck. The whole point of styles is to agree on them for everything, including emphasis, and to use only standard colors. You have a director who was upset because she thought you got one more crayon than she did, so she took her crayons and went home? It sounds like kindergarten and you're the grown up.

What had happened was that, early on, the default "paragraph" font size was too small ... so people were going in and manually resetting the size ... which, with the WONDERFUL (sarcasm font) system we now have, not only did the font do unpredictable things size-wise, it tended to change the font itself. The consultant changed the default size, told people to not manually change it, and that they'd have to go back in and manually un-change it. Only, of course, that's too much work for these busy people. So she had this weird font (she liked to change the color too ... which, again, we weren't supposed to do) in an odd size. She took umbrage at being told to use the styles rather than change things manually.

She looked at a page I'd done - a listing of award winners from last year - in which I had the names of the people who'd worked on it in the standard paragraph size, the name of the project in Header 2, and the award in Header3. She objected to the fact that I had THREE SIZES (OMG!) of type on one page!!!1!leventy!

The fact that she, in the space of two or three months, had large sections of her area either empty or incomplete - and kept the pages checked out to make sure no one else could work on them - and having people point this out was obviously an ATTACK upon her. A PERSONAL attack. So she stomped out of the meeting (which went on for about another hour).

And social-media-expert guy found a bunch of stock photos that had been purchased for a graphic person who was here about four years ago; they're large, high-res photos ... so he uploads them as-is and then sizes them down from 1200 pixels to 120 pixels ... and the download time reflects the file size, not the fact that they're thumbnails. So I'm trying to track them down and replace them with more accurately sized images.

Nothin' but fun!

"There are few hours in life more agreeable than the hour dedicated to the ceremony known as afternoon tea."

Wow, Toddson. I wish I could easily send you a treat through the internet because you have certainly earned it.

I am posting from my new computer. The keyboard is taking some getting used to.

Now let us crush something soft and watch it fountain blood. That is a girlish thing to want to do, yes?

Toddson, can I reach out smack that idiot on behalf of the entire web industry? Because DAMN that's some pissy entitled bullshit.

Friends don't let friends read "Atlas Shrugged"

Basically, it's people who aren't that knowledgeable about websites going in and pretending they are ... and refusing to let me either help, advise, or just do it myself. Meanwhile, the head person pointed out something that had been "forgotten" ... but I was able to say that I hadn't forgotten it, but that I needed the site to go live before setting some links (I could probably extrapolate the URLs, but I'd rather wait until the mess goes live).

I'm leaving for the dentist - have a good afternoon everyone!
