When you get the interview (and frankly, you're perfect for it), you can wear something like this simple black dress with a cute jacket like this and you look professional and have two pieces that can be used lots of different ways.
Generally, the Jones Studio pieces at Dress Barn are pretty nice. The fabric isn't as high quality as their other line, also they are generally not lined, but you can find some good pieces.

and look for a few job hunting seminars - at you local library or chamber of commerce - If nothing else they'll get you back in the ling o - and maybe do some networking or even help you figure out that = yes you are that good
