That reminds me, that years-old bin of flour needs to go away.

Every now and then, I think I might actually be a little odd.

You can tell Tom he's not alone, at least; I'm discovering that I have a horror/disgust/fear of food going bad. I throw it away if there's the slightest chance it's bad. Part of my reluctance to eat fruits and vegetables is a fear that I'll bite into it and it'll be rotten. I can't remember that ever actually happening to me, but considering we grew most of our food on the farm, it's possible.

Also, the problem with my vow to eat more fresh fruit this year? Fruit flies. Disgusting. Why are they here? The fruit isn't even rotting! I hope.

Oh I am very on the "if there's a question toss it out" side. Possibly because so much of y food DOES go bad, if I'm gone a lot.

Why isn't everyone pelting me with JOY, dammit? - Zenkitty

askye, if you're around - does Best Buy do any sort of price matching? In a Fry's ad, I found a laptop that appears to be the same as the one I bought last night, for abt $50 less. I haven't opened the box yet, but I'd rather not have to mess with a return, or have to go to Fry's which is further from home & work and just a generally unpleasant place. Plus, I liked the sales guy I had last night, who both answered my questions and geeked out about Joss with me, so I'd hate for there to be any negative repercussions on his quotas or whatever. But 50 bucks is 50 bucks.

Thrive to spite them

Best buy does price match. I'm pretty sure Frys is one match to They are some weird stores we don't. But retroactive price matching is usually up to the store and the store manager. You can also call and see if they will.

Best buy can be weird in that there are some rules or procedures that can't be bent and other things that are up to the store general manager.

Sometimes I think I might just move up to Vermont, open a bookstore or a vegan restaurant. Adam Schlesinger, z''l

Spoiled food really grosses me out. I throw stuff out if there's even a chance it's not good.

Just got an email from a student saying that he has mono, but that he'll try to come to class anyway. I'm assuming the health center told him that he's not contagious anymore.

I wouldn't assume that. Can you contact the health center?

this mess was yours / now your mess is mine

The health center probably can't give out info because of HIPAA. But it would be worth asking the student if the health center told him he isn't contagious.

Yeah, HIPAA probably trumps "I'm the guy's professor, I'd like to know if I'm allowing contagion into my classroom."

Hil, they shouldn't give you any info about your student, but I would ask the student if he's been cleared to return to class.
