I'm sorry, Connie. I wish there was more I could do or say.
I'm at the Joe Hill signing ridiculously early, but I have a feeling that may be a good thing for this kind of thing. I've got a cappuccino and the book being signed and I'm going to grab a seat in the signing area soon and read. It is good to occasionally remind myself I can do things like this on my own.
I killed the thread good before I left. I'm home from the signing, which was so much fun! I was very anxious to be there alone, but I ended up meeting some very interesting people. Including a nice couple who plan on naming their baby to be River, after River Song.
It's been slow the past couple days.
Did you ask them about River Tam, sj? I'm glad you had a good time.
I did, I told them that they could get two fandoms in at once with River, Firefly and Doctor Who, and they smiled. The compromised on the middle name which the father wanted to be Song. I can't remember if they said they were going with Melody or Amy, something Doctor-ish. I wish I had been bold enough to get their contact info.
I'm going in to work an hour early tomorrow, bosslady is bringing a dietician to the house to meet with some of us staff to help us hone our healthy menu planning skills. I'm going to ask this one rather pointedly about corn's status as a vegetable. I keep preaching "corn is a grain" and getting "no, I swear my dietician told me it was a vegetable" as a response. Now, I'm not saying corn is horrible (except for those who cannot tolerate it) - I'm just saying it needs to be counted as a grain/starch when planning a balanced meal. I'm expecting the response from this dietician to be something along the lines of "people hear what they want to hear and remember what they want to remember, but the dietetics profession does not think corn is anything other than a grain."
Man, I wish it were a veggie. Then a bowl of Corn Pops would get a serving of veggies out of the way! (Also, I like the way you phrase it, calling corn a grain. I have a food-police friend who made a snotty comment one time about corn and carrots being "a bowl full of sugar." *Actual* corn, not Corn Pops. That's just snarky and shitty and food police-y.)
Now I want Corn Pops.
ION, I think I'd better go to Urgent Care today, partly for Day 3 of this migraine, but partly because my right ear (which is on the side that the migraine affects and the canal hurts SO MUCH [which is par for the course with a bad migraine]) is swollen. Like, the outer ear part. And possibly the canal. That's new. And troubling.
I've got one quick think to turn in for work, and then I'm going to saddle up and go.
Ugh, migraine. Yay Corn-Pops (not that I have any, dang it). Boo jerky friend.
Boo jerky friend.
This is actually not my concern-troll friend from the Blizzard debacle; this is someone who is generally a kind person but has no tact filter, so sometimes she busts out with things that make me think "Did you MEAN to say that out loud?"
(Sometimes I wonder if I'm that person. Surely I must be, in some circumstances.)
WS, good luck with the meeting. I hope the dietician backs you up.
Teppy, that sounds awful. Feel better!
