One of my friends went out to Punxsutawney (not too far from here) to see Phil this morning. Well, he went last night, since if you want to see anything, you've got to spend the whole night outside waiting. When I found that out, I decided that it didn't seem like as much fun as I originally thought it might be.

Off-topic discussion. Wanna talk about corsets, duct tape, or physics? This is the place. Detailed discussion of any current-season TV must be whitefonted.
The problem with the "smart" quote pointing in the wrong direction can be got around by not leaving a space before it (and then going back and adding in the space after you've got the correct symbol). This is fine for a couple times, but in a paper full of leading apostrophes, I copy the apostrophe, keep it on the clipboard, and paste it in as needed.
I made a makeshift standing desk by putting my laptop on the breakfast counter. It's the right height, but there's little room for moving the mouse around. I wasn't comfortable standing for a long time, but one of those really thick mats under my feet might help. One of my friends got a treadmill desk a week ago and loves it; I think I would die.
Reading glasses: I get mine at Raley's, they seem to be okay.
What is Raley's? I ,mean, there is a big selection of them at, say, Walgreens, and I have no idea what's good, what's bad, nothing.

Okay, yeah, that's pretty funny.

Doing a Partridge Family song no less.
Raleys= grocery store that apparently sells just the one brand of reading glasses so I don't have to make a lot of decisions. I don't know of any differences between reading glasses, beyond get the ones that are the right magnification and fit on your face okay. Once again, I am not really helpful, sorry.
All this talk of standing desks is inspirational.
I'm migrating to a new computer and monitor today and have been considering a standing configuration.
Mostly, because my much bigger than expected dog (he's gained 4lbs in 10 months, takes up nearly all my office chair, most of the time. If I'm not standing, I'm perched on 1/3 of the edge. Better for posture, but pretty hard on the bum.
So. I stand.
Might as well make it official.
Reading glasses: all of mine are the cheap $12 ones from the drugstore, because I like their funky frames, and magnification is magnification. The only pair I have that I dislike and never wear are the ones that cost $25.
The cheaper ones are less sturdy and more likely to be destroyed by, say, someone sitting down on them. That's why they come in multi-packs, I think. I've only ever broken one, but YMMV.
I get the 3 for $18 jobbies from Costco. And, I have 9 pairs. Because I'm terrible with leaving them places or tucking them into pockets.
