My family is completely failing to come to a consensus about the VW Superbowl ad. It's kinda like we're a bunch of individuals or something. I hope we get orders from No Problem, Mon HQ.
Hmph! I've been waiting to find out What Jamaicans Think, and assumed I would get that from you.
ION, I'm glad I left work today before I punched someone in the goddamned face. And then I went into the Qdoba that I've been sniffing at for months, because I wanted crappy nachos, not actual Mexican food (around the corner) or an interesting burrito (another block down).
I haven't found a Jamaican yet bothered by it, Jesse. Remarkably small sample pool, admittedly, but my anecdata is just as valid as anyone else's.
It seems like it's playing on a sterotype, but in a cute way? Eh.
I think the problem some people are having with the ad is their assumption that all Jamaican's are black, so vw is making fun of black people. Black face but in voice. Which is ridiculous. I've seen the ad and it just hits me as quirky.
On the flip side, it's a little discouraging to see that between LHC and ITER Europe is kicking our ass in several areas of important science.
On the positive side, net energy fusion could save our asses. Because at this point, we not only need the world to carbon neutral pretty damn fast, we are going to need to go carbon negative at a much higher rate than any biological system can manage, Which means we will need to carbon capture and storage from the air, the way plants do but at much higher rates - something that will consume energy not produce it. We basically need to produce coal from CO2 in the air, and bury it in old coal mines. So we will need large amounts of CHEAP low carbon energy. Nuclear fusion might just do that. (Flying wind generators also might do that, but if either happens I'll be happy. )
Hey, has anyone seen or heard from Kathy A in a while? I wonder how her health is - she was posting regularly after her surgery and then dropped off...
Yeah, I don't guess I have a problem with it. I'm kind of not fussed about it either way?
Stay out of the way of the tornados, everyone.
Kate P. there is a small chance we will make a quick visit to Nashville next month, if the ETSU Bluegrass Pride Band has a gig we can go to - they will be in town to play for something else and are trying to add a public performance.
Typo, a good friend of mine just wrote a global warming book - Overheated by Andrew Guzman. Feel free to criticize, we're all friends here.
There was more but my daughter is tearing the house apart.
So far, there's one fatality in Adairsville from the tornado. This is how his neighbor described it: "A tree feel on his bedroom, and he was squished."
You can play for the Yankees!
What a perfectly horrible thing to say to your wife!
