Natter 71: Someone is wrong on the Internet
Off-topic discussion. Wanna talk about corsets, duct tape, or physics? This is the place. Detailed discussion of any current-season TV must be whitefonted.
Okay, I actually tried the ten-hundred word thing with my job description, and "drug," "medicine," "medication," "pill," and all their plurals are not in their. I would have thought at least "drug" or "pill" would be.
If it's any consolation, they're in my brother's ten hundred words.
It is like walking into a cold storage unit when you walk into the bank.
Maybe it's their subtle way of letting you know your accounts have been frozen.
Ha, I make music with a music-making thing, too! I would do the whole thing, but I'm so brain addled right now it's not even funny. Had a great meeting; the first where my former student was my colleague, which was awesome. But it was very fatiguing, and I don't want to go back tomorrow. But I guess I have to.
So, because the site would not let me use "adult" or "goals", I have had to be quite reductionist in describing what I do:
I help men and women learn how students grow and learn. I study the things and situations that help students learn more.
Just enough snow to make travel a PITA. Here's to hoping traffic clears it up enough by the time I leave.
I move words to make the writing English better.
Snowing again, on top of 3 inches already here. Glad I don't have to go anywhere. Wish I'd bought more cat food and eggs yesterday.
Feeling sympathetic rage with those having job problems. My own job is reasonably secure but getting more and more crazy-making. Seriously. They cut our production time by more than half, increased our page counts by more than half, and refused to hire people to replace the three people we lost last year, and did it without even telling us about it before they announced it to our customers, and now - NOW - they're asking *us* to "brainstorm" and "think outside the box" to figure out how to get all the work done on time. (Note, they don't really want our input. They just want to be able to say they asked for our input. Then when we complain, they can say, well we asked you for solutions and you didn't give us any!) As a result, I now have 33 articles that all have to be edited, layout done, graphics fixed, math checked, references checked, sent to authors, author's changes incorporated, back to author, rinse repeat until he's happy, and published on the Web in final form... all by next Thursday. Oh, and my software crashed because I had the wrong version of Java and I couldn't work at all yesterday.
Okay. Rant over. Carry on. Keeping calm is optional.
There doesn't seem to be a press release repeating what I was told yesterday about what's happening with my company, so I guess I can't talk about it publicly. Let's just say I hope my department isn't re-orged out of existence. Again.
WHERE IS NATTER?
I WAS WORKING. You know, briefly.
Yikes -- good luck, Jess.
Fingers crossed for you, Jessica.
No cuts to the library today (we hear) but some others today are pretty jaw dropping.
Also, the husband of a friend from high school suddenly died last night, so I am pretty much through with this week.
