Athletic Wear Inspired by Totem Poles by Adidas Originals
Oh, dear me. ::hunkers down::
It's not quite as offensive as the recent fashion show that encouraged guests to dress up as Indians, but oy. A totem pole isn't just a carving, you know? They are dense with meaning specific to the tribe/clan that made them.
This won't end well for Adidas, I suspect.

Me, too! I was also so glad to see that the Paul Frank company responded in a sensitive and correct way when they were called out. I still love Julius and didn't want to have to boycott!
Is she good reading about appropriation? As a costume person, appropriation is sort of a weird subject, because sort of all you do is appropriate things. Or at least take inspiration from them. Some of them are Western, so there is theoretically not an issue. But something like the world/costumes of Firefly takes from a whole bunch of cultures.

I've always sort of longed for really wee chimney sweeps, with the stiff scratchy brushes, to clean my ears--the worst part of being plugged for me is the itchy. No Dick Van Dyke, though.
Still, I'd love to see a tiny Dick Van Dyke, dressed as a chimney sweep and covered in earwax.
But I suppose his singing while in your ear would get annoying.
One weekend, I swear all of the ads I saw were for this ear cleaner machine thing. The best part of the ad was the stupid people stabbing themselves in the head with a q-tip and screaming "OW!" Edit: Here you go [link]
