And then Ortus came and said "It's Ortin' time" and they all Orted off into the sunset

Most Dr. Seuss books started as an attempt for Geisel to prove that you can make fun books that are all leveled readers with sight words.

Judging by the books D brings home, nobody selling leveled readers directly to schools seems to have gotten the hint.

Cats to become a rabbit should gather immediately now here

How do you moms (and dads, but it seems to be a mom thing with my friends) a) get your kids to do the homework and b) not explodiate with rage. I spent several days with my BFF, and almost the whole day was whining, whining, whining about homework- the content, the reasons for doing it, begging to wait until later, sneaking away from the table, getting distracted by music/tv/etc. And this is a 12 year old! I know I am not cut out to be a mom, but if that was entire evenings at my house, I would seriously lose it!

I remember the crazy days. 500 posts an hour. Nubmer! Natgbsb

there is no music or tv until it is done. refusal to do it will result in those items being denied for days.

whining will also resukt in loss of priveledges, or I leave the room. There is not much whining in our house actually, I "can't hear" mac when he whines, and since he has now heard me say that to him for 5 years, he gets it.

You were a wrong baby who grew up wrong. The wrong kind of wrong. It's better you hear it from a friend.

I think that photo is pretty cool, but I don't get why some are so surprised to see a newborn clutching at someone's hand. Newborns do that!

I think that's what we call a nearborn.

This, pretty much. (Unless it's whining first thing in the morning before I've had coffee, and then I just yell at them until they stop because I am AWESOME at parenting.)

Homework during the week gets done at after-school so thankfully I don't have to deal with it. Over this break the hardest part was getting started. Once he was on a roll it was pretty easy to say "Hey if you do three more worksheets now you'll have the last day of vacation just for play!"

Thanks for the birthday wishes! So far I've spent most of it sleeping, or in my pajamas watching Avengers cartoons.

information libertarian

I have one kid who (usually) happily and easily does his own homework, and another kid who whines, cries, needs absolute silence, etc. a decent chunk of the time. Unfortunately, the easy kid is the one who's 6, and the awful kid is the one who's 9. It has gotten better, especially as the homework is now less idiotic busywork.

The feeling you get when your brain finally lets your heart get in its pants.

Assuming you aren't at work, that sounds like a great way to spend your birthday!

Nooope, I took a vacation day, and that was a very wise decision on my part.
