I was reading the end of Where The Red Fern Grows before class started in fifth grade, and a classmate came up to me to ask what was wrong (I was quietly crying and she was most likely looking to get in the middle of some juicy gossip). Ugh. I am having people over, but I am in a grumpy grumpy mood, and found a stain on the dry-clean-only shirt I was going to wear, and my roommate has decided now is the perfect time to make soup in the slow cooker...and cook it for the next seven hours through the party. Is it just me or is that WEIRD?! I don't want the house smelling of carrot soup, especially if that's not something we are offering guests!! She's like "Oh, well, it won't be through that much of the party", and I"m like "you just told me it cooks for 6-8 hours. It's 4pm and you haven't finished chopping veggies. WTF"

It's not so true to the book but it does have things I quite like on their own merit.
