Pumpkin pie is delicious. Mmm. I should really make it more often (other than the issue of "not right now because I have a whole new year's plan")
Is it just me, or do other people start new year's resolutions on January 2nd? Because I always feel like since 1/1 is a holiday, 1/2 is when I get back to "regular" life. A holiday is the perfect day to finish all your preparations or whatever for any resolutions (be that buying workout clothes, or cooking a healthy casserole, or finishing cleaning your apartment, etc)
Not that I've actually decided on a "resolution" (I am going back on a diet, but that isn't so much a resolution...I don't intend to be on one forever or anything).
I have pumpkin muffins that have gone uneaten this week. They are not bad, but are starting to get a bit dry. I was thinking they would make a good base for a bread pudding like yumfest. Could I just soak them in milk, pour some beaten eggs over them and bake?
Totally do that, because it would be awesome.
A thank-you note to your boss seems like a nice thing?
I am currently doing my NYE manicure, which is silver glitter over black, but holy crap, the cheapo nail polish I got for Christmas is terrible. Super gloopy and yuck. I'm trying to thin out the glitter with some remover, but am scared to get it on my nails. But the (18!!) colors are so great!
Far be it to break a self-posting streak.
The spot was occupied by a four foot christmas tree. So, not that much space. I think I should put shelves there. or move Grace's medical supplies back.
ION, I accidentally started looking at Petfinder earlier, and man, most of the local cats are actual rescues -- either strays or from terrible situations. I was really hoping my next cat would be
less
fucked in the head than poor Homer! Obviously, I'm not in any rush.
I am gonna go for the longest posting streak ever until one of you brave souls convinces me I am not marcied.
I see you!
I think the pumpkin bread pudding thing sounds like it could work.
My theoretical understanding of impromptu bread pudding is to make a custard of the milk and eggs (beat the eggs, add twice as much milk as egg and beat that mixture til smooth) and pour that over the muffin bits, let soak, then bake. Which sounds like a good thing to do with leftover pumpkin muffins, yes indeed.
ok, whew - well I just did all that part of the pumpkin pie making. and despite you all posting, I am going to continue.
Add to that mixture 2 Tbl molasses and 1 can (12 oz) evaporated milk. stir, then pour into baked pie shell. cook for 45 min at 375 with foil on edges, then removefoil and cook about 10 more min.
I am downloading 11 books from Project Gutenburg to read in 2013 (January I plan to finally finish The Mill on the Floss). So far I have Anatomy of Melancholy, Journal of the Plague Year, The Tempest, The Scarlet Letter, The Pickwick Papers, Boswell's Life of Johnson, Five Children and It, and The Alchemist.
...I'm insane, aren't I?
a book a month is a great idea. I should do that with my tbr shelves.
found out that one of my advisees possibly plagiarized. this is a student who is in the middle of writing a dissertation. I am hoping that such plagiarism took place during the dissertation proposal and NOT on the major exam student had to complete before becoming a doctoral candidate. If it is the former, I can handle it in such a way that it may not need to go t a disciplinary committee. if it is the latter, the student may have to do a 4 month exam process all over again.
I haven't heard all the details yet, but maybe this needs to go through a disciplinary committee any way.
God. I don't need this bullshit.
