Greece's financial crisis threatens to take down all of Western civilization - a civilization they themselves founded. A rather tragic irony - which is something they also invented. - Jon Stewart

Because your sister couldn't make any herself?

Because you rock.

Indeed. You did good by your sister and her partner, and I'm sorry your parents can't see it that way. I concur that you should spend the holiday with your sister & her family.

I had dinner with my folks, and I have to say, for all the money we're paying this place, I have yet to have a meal ordered where the staff didn't fuck it up. Tonight he forgot my dad's wine and brought me the entree even though I'd told him I was getting the salad bar. They're really really nice people, but the dining room staff are, sadly, just barely competent. When we got there at 6:30 there was hardly a clean table: restaurant service this ain't.

Happily, we had no argument about where they're living, which was nice. And now I'm home in my sweats with a decent glass of red wine and Jon Stewart on the Tivo.

Bad thought: they're too used to people forgetting.

Glad tonight went without too much drama.

Well not canonically, no, but this is transformative fiction.

I can tell they're concerned about my faith (they don't know I'm an atheist) but yet they never ask me about it. Afraid of what they might find out?

Oh, that's a difficult position. I feel happy right now for the relationship I have with my parents and the condition they're in. It's all so fragile.

I just remembered I need to do my self-eval before the end of the week. My tomorrow off is a lot less off than my manager intended.

The top I'm wearing today is a result of shopping through my laundry bags--it took me a while to remember I owned it, and I could have stood to check in the mirror. I'm not sure why this black mock turtleneck makes my rack look so huge and my waist so high (well, okay, my waist is high-scratch that). But these look like a back pain issue in this top--I blame the (really tiny) (high set) keyhole, but I don't know why.

tommyrot I'm with whoever said go hang with sis and gf and kids, and sucks to be your parents. He'll, if mine had stayed hard line about my sister's husband, I'd be celebrating with her and not them.

Cash, that's creepy gross. But go you. It does make me feel slightly better about the state of my house.

ita, optical illusion. If you had the mental space for it, I'd drag you jeans shopping. I'm in fighting mood around pants.

Hey, is *anyone* still winning the Little Drummer Boy game at this point? If so, I envy the hell out of you.

AND I shop AND I listen to KOST 103.5 which is all holiday music all the time. Instead, in stores, I get Never Let Me Down Again. Buh?

I am also still winning the LDB game.

Bob's learned to live with tragedy, but he knows that this tragedy is one that won't ever leave him or get better.

Bad thought: they're too used to people forgetting.

But their families wouldn't. I think it's just that probably they have not great staff in the dining areas.

Instead, in stores, I get Never Let Me Down Again. Buh?

The Depeche Mode? Which stores? I will totally shop there.

Why did Darth Vader cross the road? To get to the Dark Side!

I am also winning the LDB game, but like ita I like it so that doesn't feel quite as winning as not hearing "Deck the Halls" either.

Last song I heard was "Baba O'Reilly"; The Who performed at the Hurricane Sandy fundraiser. Not sure how that translates into a signature sex move. Maybe mine is Pete Townshend's helicopter arm trick?

Hey, did y'all hear that Ravi Shankar died? I've been hearing sitar music all day.

I was going to say the last song I heard was something by Ravi Shankar.

I cannot believe he is Norah Jones' dad.

Cass, it was at Trader Joes. I also heard Closer to Fine at CVS. Fuck, we are old enough for musak.
