"It didn't taste good. It tasted soooo horrible. It tasted like....a vodka martini." - Matilda

I'm kind of apple obsessed. I had read about Black Arkansas and kept looking for them. They are hard to find, although I'm seeing them a little more, and some growers in North Georgia have planted them. They showed up in some local farmers' markets this year.

"I keep to a strict diet of ill-advised enthusiasm and heartfelt regret." Leigh Bardugo

okay, -t, you are AMAZING. Seriously. I'm too tired and impatient to look. Plus creating this insane-o assessment.

brillig

We were at Carl's Jr for lunch today and saw a man wearing this t-shirt

[link]

Turns out he is the artist who has done lots of t-shirts like this, and he was thrilled at our interest and was happy to pass on a card with his website. So I figured I'd do my bit for local fannish artists and give him a free ad.

"Faded like the lilac, he thought."

You know you're tired when you're scrolling back to put something in your copy buffer to respond to, and you just keep paging back and back and eventually you realize you've forgotten what it was you were trying to find. So yeah, I'm gonna go ahead and say I'm at the diminishing returns portion of the evening and call it a night.

We are Buffistas. This isn't our first apocalypse. -- Pix

How much do you normally see your parents, Consuela, if there is a normal? Are you expecting to spend more time with them as part of your mother's acclimation, or is this close to usual?

Well, for the last year or so, I've spent about half of each Saturday with them, from 8:30AM to about 2PM. And often a bit of Sunday, if they come over to my sister's house for Sunday dinner.

Part of the sell of the assisted living facility is that it's 12 minutes or so from my house and my sister's, instead of 30-40 minutes, and without as much of a rush-hour barrier. So I've seen them during the week as well since they moved, if not for very long.

I'm hoping that I won't feel as obligated to spend lots of time with them because they will develop friendships in the building and will go to movies and outing with the other residents. But I'm pretty sure they won't ever be as social as most of the other residents, because Mom just doesn't want to hang out with people she thinks are decrepit old folks, even though she is one herself.

But it will be nice to be able to go away for a weekend and not worry that they won't see another solitary person while I'm gone. People will be checking in on them.

Oh, I quite like that shirt, Nora! :)

My roommate has headed off to meet up with a fellow law clerk and help/assist judges who are doing same sex marriages starting at midnight tonight. Woot! If any of y'all will be awake, her friend is tweeting pictures and stuff:

Back tattoos of the mother is that you are absolutely right - Ame

Went out to a party for the ARP adults. It was mostly the command staff and the folks who put together the silent auction. It was nice to be out and people liked my peppermint brownie cookies (a new recipe).

It started snowing about half way through the party and I didn't leave until about 11:30. It was quite the drive home. It isn't like I haven't driven on snow before, just not so late at night or without anyone else with me. And to think, CJ had the top down on the Mustang earlier today. Hah!
