I'm going to KC, then to SW MO to see family during my first ever week long paid vacation. I will be seeing cousins, too. There are 3 of them (once and twice removed) I haven't met yet.

Tomorrow will be exciting things like cleaning and laundry in prep for the trip.

How on earth are you people in contact with your fourth cousins?? I mean, I have met many of my dads cousins, and a few of their kids who would be my second cousins, but nothing further back than that!!

Through genealogy research, mostly. Plus having a really uncommon last name, so that whenever any of us hear of someone else with the same last name, the first thought is, "How are they related?" For people who I know because our families have always been in contact, I think the furthest relation I know would be third cousins.

I thought maybe Galactus was in the cloud, and maybe he'd farted. SO STUPID. Everyone should be ashamed of themselves.

We keep track to fourth cousins out, for sure. Second cousin two or three times removed is close enough to move in with. Fourth cousins are all "You remember Banga? Well this is the child of his elder sister." I had the family tree, my brain exploded, and I think I need to put that online somehow.

Hil, do you know of any genealogy web software where you can put security on it, so no one can see anything without a password? I know messy was to do it, but it would elegant if they had security levels within.

Nothing that I know of. All the systems I've seen are set up to at least allow everyone to see a list of all the names in the tree, even if nothing else. I haven't really looked into it too much, though -- I've got mine as a private tree on ancestry.com, which isn't perfect, but seems like good enough security for my needs.

I'm watching the second FF4 movie, and people need to calibrate. When you say Green Lantern was bad...it was not bad like this is bad.

Aw, I liked that movie. Chris Evans was considerably hotter than in the first one, and Jessica Alba had much better luck convincing me she was a bride-to-be freaking out over wedding interruptions than a scientist/astronaut. (The casting people should be forced to watch Denise Richards in that Bond movie, A Clockwork Orange-style...) Even Doom was much truer to form, though I still disliked Julian McMahon's American accent and having him make quips during the fights.
