What you did to me was unbelievable, Connor. But then I got stuck in a hell dimension by my girlfriend one time for a hundred years, so three months under the ocean actually gave me perspective. Kind of a M.C. Escher perspective, but I did get time to think.

I made a Forest of Endor joke to an arborist in regards to the huge forest of trees next door that had been taken down by another company. I got a blank look. I followed it up with "Ewok village". Still nothing.

Really?

Steph, I'm so sorry that the unemployment has become unofficial. Remember, living well is the best revenge. Unfortunately sometimes getting to the 'living well' stage takes a little time, but you'll get there.

Sometimes I trip on how happy we could be.

OK, have done Jobs 1-3 of vacation: Wrapped presents and have veg broth and tomato sauce on the stove. I don't know if I'll actually have room in my freezer, but I had to deal with the CSA veg before I go out of town! Next I will eat the last tomato fresh with basil and mozzarella.

Jesse, where are you going on vacation?

I have one more day of summer program at UCLA. Starting next week, I have 6 days at a lesson study. Being NOT the one in charge is oddly liberating. I'll get to just kick it!

I am the fly who dreams of the spider

Got an email from ED apologizing that I didn't get to chat more with potential new boss, but I should rest assured that when it came time to making a decision, I'd be involved in the process.

That's great, but what's the point of involving me in the final hiring decision if I have no clue who these people are beyond what's on paper?

And apparently, when the candidate from yesterday got taken out to lunch and the admin lady was supposed to attend and get a vibe, she was unable to do so because the DD kept talking about how she, the DD, was so very awesome.

I think the ED is starting to catch a clue that he made a mistake with her. She invited him to a party at some rich person's mansion on the pretense that he'd network and promote where we work and maybe get some new donors/members. Yet every time she introduced him, it was "This is F, we work together" and not "this is the ED of this specific place that I'm proud to be a part of, and he's my boss". She was introduced to a board member's kid as "Mrs. L who works at the arboretum", and she took it as a personal affront. Is she so embarrassed to be associated with RRA, or is she embarrassed to to be seen as working? This is our development director, yo.

Sometimes I trip on how happy we could be.

Yeah, that's not how you do that.

I am taking a long weekend around the mid-Atlantic, around a friend's baby shower, and then staycationing!

Today I took 8 boxes of books to the library bookstore, mopped the kitchen floor, ran the dogs 4 miles, washed a load of laundry, took one of the dogs to the vet, and made a batch of chewy coconut bars to bring to a friend's tonight.

... I don't think this is what unemployment is supposed to be like. Yikes.

Because books.

Mmm, chewy coconut bars.

That's a lot of stuff, Consuela!

long weekend around the mid-Atlantic

It's supposed to cool down a little, I think. God, I hope.
